Because one should give away whatever possessions one has, whether large or small, one should not despise small things and not give, and because one thinks that things have no value, one is arrogant about large things and does not give. Dedicating the fruit of giving to something other than unsurpassed Bodhi is a perverse giving. This is also called giving with the desire to be born, meaning that the ripening of the karmic result of giving ripens in any kind of birth, which is called wanting to be born. Where one wants to be born is explained by the subsequent words, such as form and enjoyment. Among them, giving with great joy for a beautiful form, great enjoyment, and great power is wanting to be born in the human realm. Wishing to be born in places such as Indra and giving is wanting to be born in the heavenly realm. A youth is one who has not yet obtained the power of kingship. Giving to this short life is a giving that is exhausted in one lifetime. Bodhisattvas do not think that giving only once in a lifetime is enough, so they combine the saying that there will be enough in the future and that there will be no possessions to give. Bodhisattvas do not look at the karmic results, but focus on all sentient beings, so they dedicate all merits such as giving to becoming more and more excellent from life to life, and to producing fruits of the same cause. One does not dedicate to the part of perfect enjoyment, etc., and the accumulation of giving in this way is not dedicated to anything other than omniscience, so it is said that there is no giving that is not dedicated to the mind of omniscience. Giving leftover food and drink to those who diligently keep vows, or mixing or contaminating things such as garlic, onions, meat, and alcohol for those who do not eat them, is an unlawful giving. Giving to others before giving to one's own servants, etc., is giving at the wrong time. Giving alcohol mixed with poison and weapons is also included. Killing sheep and other animals and giving flesh and blood is harming sentient beings and giving. After extensively explaining the detailed classification of abandoning incompatible aspects in this way, in order to summarize briefly, (the following explains) the giving of Bodhisattvas.

It is said that the wise do not condemn giving. If giving is pleasant in this life but does not help in the next life; or is neither pleasant nor helpful in both this life and the next; or is accompanied by faults in this life; or is accompanied by faults in the next life; or is accompanied by faults in both this life and the next, such giving is condemned by the wise. Bodhisattvas do not have such giving. The nature of completely holding the antidote, which is completely pure, should be understood by completely holding the three antidotes: the worldly antidote, the supramundane antidote of learning, and the unsurpassed antidote. Among these, from "giving is accomplished by the form of emptiness" to "not mixed with the three realms" shows the worldly antidote. From "giving is the liberation of fruit conforming to the cause" to "accumulating the collections of the path to enlightenment" shows the supramundane antidote of learning. From "giving is perfectly dedicated" to "giving is given to the omniscient wisdom" shows the unsurpassed antidote. Through "giving is accomplished by the form of emptiness" and so on, these givings are generated by the three doors of liberation, and by practicing without separating from them, just as worldly giving clings to things and signs and gives, these will not be exhausted, just like emptiness and so on, they will never be exhausted, that is the meaning. Non-manifest unconditioned refers to the dharma that is not produced by cause and condition, which is the true limit. Because it is dedicated for the sake of obtaining it, it is inexhaustible. To grasp correctly means to grasp without reversing. The Bodhisattva grasps with proper attention, that is the meaning of the word "grasping." Not mixed with the three realms means not being contaminated by the three realms and their desires. What is called liberation is said to refer to the body of liberation. It is accomplished by the accumulation of giving and so on, and from it giving arises continuously, therefore giving is the liberation of fruit conforming to the cause. Therefore, it is called inexhaustible. Merit
