can be applied to all excellent aspects. With the mind of discipline, one will not intentionally violate the vows of a Bodhisattva's discipline, even for the sake of one's life; and even if one violates them, one will quickly confess them. With the mind of the pāramitās, one constantly cultivates virtuous dharmas, thus abiding in mindfulness and abiding supremely in mindfulness. With the superior intention of the sole purpose, for the sake of sentient beings, with a non-afflicted mind, one will also revolve in samsara, and will not abandon the superior intention for nirvana. With the superior intention of power, one believes in and proclaims the teachings from the bottom of one's heart, and also cherishes meditation, abiding mostly in it due to the arising of desire, and not being satisfied with merely hearing and thinking. With the mind of benefit, the mind of happiness, and the mind of ease, one can apply oneself to all activities for the benefit of sentient beings. Even after doing them, one will not be completely weary. With the steadfast superior intention, one abides in the blazing diligence and the correct initiation of great diligence, without slackening effort and without diminishing effort. With the non-deceptive superior intention, one will quickly attain realization of those virtuous dharmas to be accomplished, and will not be satisfied with obtaining inferior, small, or crude special achievements. With the cutting-off superior intention, one can lead to the birth of the co-emergent superior intention. With the co-emergent superior intention, for the benefit, welfare, and happiness of gods and humans, one can quickly realize the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. These fifteen superior intentions, as well as the superior intentions spoken of in this sutra, and the arising of the Bodhisattva's conduct, should all be appropriately combined. In order to ask "Why is the Bodhisattva's mind called superior intention?", it is said, "Why is that?" Because compared to the intentions mentioned above, in terms of object and qualities, it is more excellent, as will appear below, or the Bodhisattva

The thought of the brave is always thinking for the sake of oneself and others, therefore it is called the superior intention. Therefore, it is said (in the scriptures) to especially focus on all roots of virtue, etc. How to especially focus on all roots of virtue? That is to say, even whatever a Bodhisattva thinks in his mind, will be focused on the roots of virtue with superior intention. As it is said, Bodhisattvas abiding in the first ground, no matter how much movement of mind and discrimination arises, they will especially focus on the roots of virtue, not on non-virtue, therefore it is called superior intention. From the first ground etc. upwards to the second ground etc. and abiding therein, thinking of obtaining the merits of the higher ground, is the superior intention of advancement. Bodhisattvas, in order to transcend the three realms, is the superior intention of transcendence. Compared to the Hearer Arhat, the Pratyekabuddha is more superior, and the Bodhisattvas are more superior than both of these, therefore, becoming more and more superior, like this becoming the lord of all or the venerable one, is the superior intention of the summit. The first ground perfects the Dana Paramita, and in an instant can shake a hundred worlds, etc., like this each ground perfects one Paramita, and the merits become more and more superior, it is called holding all kinds of different dharmas. The power of wisdom of the Bodhisattvas abiding in the eighth ground, makes the dhyana etc. Bodhipakshika dharmas, and the powers and fearlessness etc. all Buddha dharmas, clearly manifest in a mature way, therefore it is called the manifest superior intention towards all Buddha dharmas. The cause that makes the Bodhisattva obtain superiority from higher ground to higher ground, that is, the Paramitas and the four immeasurables etc., are the dharmas corresponding to the superior division, and familiarizing with them is called special focus. All activities are for the sake of oneself and others. To bring it into experience is to finally complete, to finally complete the benefit of oneself and others.
