It is called inexhaustible. Similarly, all compounded things with defilements are suffering, all conditioned and unconditioned dharmas are without self, and freedom from afflictions is peaceful nirvana. To rejoice in this, the practice of teaching is called inexhaustible. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, "In brief," and so on, is to briefly explain why the aforementioned practices are inexhaustible. Because the wisdom of omniscience is like the sky and cannot be exhausted, all the practices of bodhisattvas tend to and flow into it, so it is inexhaustible. The three words are spoken to distinguish between the initial commencement of practice, the intermediate meditation, and the final completion. The inexhaustible practice has been explained. In particular, it is to explain how the bodhisattva who progresses further and further seeks the supreme state of distinction, and the many methods that are shown. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, the superior intention of the bodhisattvas is inexhaustible, and so on. Among these, the inexhaustibility of superior intention should be viewed in three ways: inexhaustibility of nature, inexhaustibility of action, and inexhaustibility of cause. Through these, it is shown in order what is inexhaustible, how it is inexhaustible, and by what it is inexhaustible. To show the inexhaustibility of nature, it is said, "Why is that?" and so on. Among these, faith in the Buddha's teachings, individual thought, and determination, with faith as the guide, and with the distinction of dharma as the guide, these are the superior intentions of the bodhisattva. These superior intentions of the bodhisattva, in brief, should be understood as fifteen types. What are these fifteen? Superior intention, intention of discipline, intention of going to the other shore, intention of that very meaning, intention of harmony, intention of benefit, intention of happiness, intention of generosity, intention of steadfastness, intention of non-deception, intention of impurity, intention of purity, intention of extreme purity, intention of taming, and intention of co-emergence. Among these, the Buddha and

With respect to the Dharma and the Sangha, the Three Jewels, the superior intention of a Bodhisattva is called the supreme intention. The superior intention with which a Bodhisattva perfectly takes the vows of morality is called the intention of morality. The superior intention to accomplish generosity, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom is called the intention of the pāramitās. The superior intention with respect to the profound suchness of the ultimate truth of Dharma, the selflessness of phenomena and persons, is called the intention of the true meaning. The superior intention with respect to the inconceivable power of the superknowledges of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas is called the intention of power. The intention to accomplish virtuous thoughts for sentient beings is called the intention of benefit. The intention that is without contamination for sentient beings, and the intention that is not associated with the ripening of suffering, is called the intention of relinquishment. The single-minded determination towards unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment is called the intention of steadfastness. The faith and conviction that are endowed with unerring certainty regarding the means of benefiting sentient beings and the means of enlightenment is called the intention of non-deception. On all the grounds of conduct based on faith, the superior intention of Bodhisattvas is called the impure intention. From the ground of pure intention up to the ground of definite conduct, the superior intention of Bodhisattvas is called the pure intention. On the ultimate ground, the superior intention of Bodhisattvas is called the extremely pure intention. Among these, the impure intention is that which is severed, because it is to be examined separately. The superior intention of purity and extreme purity is called the co-emergent intention, because it has the nature of self-nature and is very firmly established on the basis. In short, Bodhisattvas accomplish ten activities through these fifteen superior intentions that realize all virtuous qualities. What are these ten activities? The supreme intention is to make offerings to the Three Jewels and all the accumulations of enlightenment.
