Until I attain unsurpassed enlightenment, I will not be exhausted in the intermediate state. From the time of inexhaustible diligence, it is like the example of a drop of water falling into the great ocean, hence it is called skillful means. Furthermore, there are four inexhaustible means, namely: knowing letters, arithmetic, manual calculation, etc., is the inexhaustible means of counting and contemplating. Knowing how to measure with bushels and balances, etc., is the inexhaustible means of measuring and understanding. Knowing how to examine clothes and jewels, etc., is the inexhaustible means of observing and understanding. Knowing the characteristics and examinations of the flesh of humans, elephants, horses, etc., is the inexhaustible means of individually examining and contemplating. Furthermore, the so-called four inexhaustible means, by other names, show four inexhaustible means, namely: cultivating the understanding of suffering and its origin, cultivating the understanding of cessation and the path, proclaiming the faults of all afflictions, and proclaiming the benefits of purification. Among them, the so-called inexhaustible means of cultivating the understanding of the cause of all afflictions is the cultivation of the understanding of suffering and its origin. All afflictions refer to the truth of suffering, because the cycle of the three realms is all afflictions. Its cause is the truth of origin, if one knows that the cause of suffering is origin, it is called the inexhaustible means of all afflictions. The so-called inexhaustible means of cultivating the understanding of the cause of purification is the cultivation of the understanding of cessation and the path. Purification is the truth of cessation, its cause is the truth of the path, knowing it in this way is called the inexhaustible means of cultivating the understanding of the cause of purification. The so-called inexhaustible means of fully proclaiming the cause of all afflictions is the proclamation of the faults of all afflictions. The truth of suffering is permanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness, its cause is origin, arising, cause, and condition, proclaiming it in this way is called the inexhaustible means of fully proclaiming the cause of all afflictions.

Therefore, the so-called "inexhaustible combination of fully expressing the merits and benefits of complete purification" refers to the combination of expressing the benefits of complete purification. Among them, the truth of cessation is cessation, peace, exquisiteness, and definite departure. The truth of the path is the path, reason, practice, and the cause of definite departure. Such a teaching is called the "inexhaustible combination of fully expressing the merits and benefits of complete purification." These words themselves, under other names, explain the meaning in four ways: the combination of explaining the cause of samsara, the combination of explaining the path of nirvana, the combination of revealing the faults of the cause of samsara, and the combination of revealing the benefits of nirvana. Correspond the four words of the sutra in order. Furthermore, the so-called "four inexhaustible combinations" refers to the four inexhaustible combinations explained under other names: the combination for those who understand the aggregates as illusory, the combination for those who understand the three realms as empty cities, the combination for those who understand the sense bases as dangerous as the poison of a venomous snake, and the combination for those who understand that all phenomena arise from causes and conditions. Among them, the five aggregates are like illusions, the eighteen realms are empty, devoid of self and what belongs to self, like an empty city. The sense bases, such as the eye, focus on forms and so on, and by generating desire and so on, they make one's own roots of virtue, which are like life, dangerous. Therefore, the sense bases are like the poison of a venomous snake. All internal and external phenomena arise from causes and conditions. If one knows the nature of the aggregates, realms, sense bases, and dependent origination in this way, it is called the inexhaustible combination of contemplating the aggregates, realms, sense bases, and dependent origination, corresponding in order. Again, called the inexhaustible combination, it is explained under other names: called the inexhaustible combination of fully establishing the impermanence of all conditioned things. Whatever becomes a conditioned thing is impermanent. The Bodhisattva also teaches in this way, because it is an inexhaustible combination, it is the combination of fully revealing the impermanence of all conditioned things.
