Te. The cause of afflictions is the view of self, and because the view of self is abandoned, it is called the cessation of the nature of the cause. The complete cessation of clinging to the other shore, this shore, the middle, and all extremes indicates transcendence of the limits of past and future. Thinking about the past is clinging to the extreme of the other shore. Thinking about the future is clinging to the extreme of this shore. Thinking about the present is clinging to the extreme of the middle. Because there is no thinking about the three times, it is called the complete cessation of all clinging to extremes. Because there is no imputation, it is called luminosity, which indicates purity by nature, free from the adventitious stains of grasping and being grasped. Thinking that there is a grasper and something grasped is called imputation. Because there is no thinking that there is a grasper and something grasped, it is called luminosity, which is the nature of being naturally pure. Because there is no separation, there is no joy, and because there is no experience, there is no bliss, which indicates transcendence of the taste of worldly absorption, the stain of experiencing, contentment of mind, and bodily bliss. Because there is no contentment of mind, it is called the absence of joy. Experience is the tasting of the flavor of mental concentration. Because there is no tasting of the flavor of concentration, there is no bodily bliss. Because it is peaceful from the beginning, it is called the absence of complete suffering, which indicates nirvana by nature. From the beginning to the future time, from that time also it is peaceful, which is the meaning of nirvana by nature. Because it is free from all effort, it is the nature of liberation, which means that because the result is manifest, there is no exertion of diligence. All effort refers to the exertion of diligence in listening, thinking, meditating, and so on. Because the fruit of complete liberation is directly experienced, there is no exertion of diligence in listening and so on in order to manifest that fruit, so it is called being free from all effort. Because there is no form, there is no body. Because there is no feeling, there is no becoming feeling. Because there is no bowing, there is no absence of bowing. Because it is not fabricated, it is not compounded. Because there is no consciousness, it is the nature of non-discrimination, which means transcendence of the nature of the five aggregates.

Therefore, it is shown. Because there is no form with obstruction, the voice of Dharma is called bodiless. Because there is no pleasure and pain, and no feeling that is neither pleasure nor pain, therefore it is not transformed by feelings such as pleasure. Grasping onto objects is a knot, because there is no grasping onto objects, therefore there is no knot. Therefore, it is being free from knots, which means being free from grasping. Because good and non-good are not manifestly accumulated, it is called non-accumulation. Because there are no seven consciousnesses, etc., therefore there is no consciousness, and therefore it is the nature of being un-realizable. Because there is no grasping, there is no taking. Because there is no abandoning, there is no discarding, which shows that there is no addition and no discarding. Because the faults of Samadhi are not taken to mind, therefore there is no mental grasping, and therefore it is called no taking. Although it is like that, because one does not abandon merely practicing it, it is called no discarding. Because there is no place, it is non-abiding, which shows that there is no Alaya. The place is the basis of all seeds, the Alaya consciousness. At that time, because there is no Alaya consciousness, there is no place, so because all habitual tendencies do not abide, it is called non-abiding. Because it is separated from feeling, it is non-dwelling, which shows that because there are no three feelings, there is no attachment to anything. Because it is separated from the three feelings of pleasure and pain, and neither pleasure nor pain, it is non-dwelling, which means there is no attachment to anything. Because it does not arise, it is the nature of not becoming arising, which shows the unborn. Not arising means unborn. The unborn does not become non-existent, which means that it will not be destroyed even later. Because it is not held by mindfulness and attention, and thought and all mental factors, it shows that it does not rely on the collection of mind and mental factors. Not forgetting things is mindfulness. Repeatedly thinking about it is attention, mindfulness and attention, and faith and diligence, etc., do not rely on any collection of mind and mental factors, so it is called not holding.
