Protecting from deterioration, and preventing what has been protected from being distracted by opposing factors, is called mindfulness. In order to make the mind of enlightenment unforgotten and constant, therefore, from such a samadhi, therefore, it is said, "How does he contemplate that in his mind?" etc. Among them, "that" refers to the bodhisattva who abides in mindfulness, or the bodhisattva who does not forget the mind of enlightenment. "In the mind" refers to the mind of enlightenment. "Contemplate in this way" means contemplating the mind of enlightenment as described below. "How to contemplate?" Therefore, it is said, "The mind arises and decays, dissolves and does not stay," etc. The mind refers to the mind itself or the mind of enlightenment. "Having arisen" means immediately upon arising. "Decaying and dissolving" is the same meaning, referring to immediate decay. "Not staying" means having no power to stay even a little, so "therefore" should be added. "It does not abide within, nor does it move to external objects, nor is it perceived where both are absent" means that the mind is of a momentary nature, the nature of decaying and dissolving immediately upon arising. After decaying, it also becomes non-existent, not abiding in the internal things, nor moving to the external objects. It is not either of the two, and it is not perceived or abiding between the two, inside and outside, that is the meaning. Regarding "Whoever generates the first mind of enlightenment," etc., it has already been said above, and here it should be added, "also understand in this way." "Has arisen" means has already arisen in the past. "Extinguished and ceased," etc., is the same meaning, indicating that it has become non-existent. Extinguished means without cause. Ceased means non-existent by nature. Disappeared means that it has become non-existent and has not remained anywhere, so it is called non-existent. It does not abide in place and direction, therefore it cannot be established, that is the meaning. Initially generating the mind, that mind decays and ceases in each moment, becoming different and different, disappearing and becoming non-existent, because there is no entity, it does not abide in place and direction, and cannot be established with name and form, that is the meaning. The mind is born of whom

It is said that for the sake of enlightenment, those roots of virtue that have been properly cultivated also become exhausted, cease, vanish, and disappear. What does this mean? What kind of mind is the cause of the roots of virtue? For the sake of enlightenment is for the sake of attaining that fruit. Cultivating the roots of virtue is cultivating the accumulations of merit and wisdom. The mind of enlightenment itself, according to the manner mentioned above, is without intrinsic nature in the ultimate sense. Therefore, the roots of virtue that arise from it also vanish and disappear, because like the mind, it is without intrinsic nature, so it does not abide in place and direction, and cannot be given names and labels, that is its meaning. What kind of mind dedicates those roots of virtue to enlightenment, those also have that nature, that characteristic, what does that mean? What kind of mind is the cause of the roots of virtue, that is, the arising of the mind of enlightenment. Dedicating to enlightenment also refers to those roots of virtue that grow after dedicating to enlightenment. That is to say, the roots of virtue generated by the mind of enlightenment, those dedicated to unsurpassed enlightenment, also like the mind, are exhausted and cease. From the characteristic of vanishing and disappearing, they do not abide in place and direction, and cannot be labeled, that is what it shows. The mind does not know the mind, because the mind is without intrinsic nature, there is no knower and known. Similarly, the following also applies. The mind does not connect the boundaries of the mind, which means that the past mind does not transfer to the future, nor does it connect the boundaries with the future mind. Among them, with what shall I realize the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment? Etc., for the mind that will realize enlightenment, and the mind of the roots of virtue, etc., if observed in the manner described above, nothing is inherently established, therefore, any mind of enlightenment does not dwell together with the mind of the roots of virtue, etc., it is said. In order to show other aspects of thought on the mind, it is also said, he thinks like this, cause and effect will not be wasted, etc.
