Has it been touched? Or, remembering and abiding that it is not so, that is mindfulness. Furthermore, mindfulness is established for the sake of guarding mindfulness, being free from pervasive afflictions of the object, and focusing on the object of attention. Among these, guarding mindfulness is guarding mindfulness, and there is no constant diligence in mindfulness. Among these, being free from pervasive afflictions of the object is guarding the mind with mindfulness, causing it to abide in a state of equality, not clinging to characteristics, not clinging to manifest signs, guarding the faculty of mind, and the faculty of mind also accomplishes discipline. Among these, focusing on the object of attention is mindfulness focused on the four types of objects of attention, namely: the pervasive object of attention, the object of attention that purifies discrimination, the object of attention of the wise, and the object of attention that purifies afflictions. With these three causes, mindfulness is well established, and that is what is called mindfulness. How does a Bodhisattva abide contemplating the body in the body? This is the question. In order to answer the question, it is said, "He abides contemplating the body in his own body and in the bodies of others," and so on. Among these, one's own body is the body of the Bodhisattva himself. The bodies of others are the bodies of sentient beings. Alternatively, one's own body is the form apprehended by the faculties of eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body. The bodies of others are the external sense bases such as form and sound. Contemplating the body is like wisdom, which contemplates the specific and general characteristics of one's own body and the bodies of others. Abiding is samadhi, which continuously focuses on the dharma that has been examined by wisdom. Therefore, it is to show that examination is done with wisdom and focus is done with samadhi. It is said, "Also contemplating the prior limit of the body, also contemplating the posterior limit of the body," the prior limit of the body is the time when the body first arises in the mother's womb, at that time, this body is also caused by perversion, and arises from the sperm and blood of the parents, and is blurred and soft.

Etc., this is to contemplate how it has changed before. The ultimate end of the body is aging and death, contemplating that this body will eventually age and die, turning into skeletons, etc. The present manifestation of the body refers to the body that actually exists now, and it is also necessary to contemplate that it must be nourished by washing, massaging, eating, and dressing, etc. In order to elaborate on the contemplation of the body in the three times, it is said, "Alas, this body is," etc., which means that there is no chance to breathe, it arises from karma and afflictions, there is no entity of a person, no entity of dharma, and it is explained with metaphors. Among them, "Alas" is used to indicate that there is no chance to breathe, meaning that this body is the source of various sufferings, and even if you feel pain in your heart, there is no way to avoid it, so it is said "Alas," which is a tone of regret and displeasure. The so-called "arising from perversion" indicates arising from karma and afflictions, that is, arising from perverse views, perverse perceptions, and perverse minds, and produced by the causes and conditions of karma and afflictions. The use of "no feeling" and "no action," etc., indicates the absence of a personal entity, because in this body, there is no "self" that is falsely established by those non-Buddhists. The so-called "arising from causes and conditions" indicates the absence of a dharma entity, meaning that the body itself is like an illusion, arising from the power of causes and conditions, merely appearing as if appearing in a dream, not actually existing, and one should contemplate in this way. Using "for example, external" etc. to illustrate, meaning that external things etc. also arise from causes and conditions, without "self" and author. The so-called "similarly" is the same word as "like that," meaning that it is the same as arising from causes and conditions and without "self" and author. The so-called "completely grasping" means only the nature of aggregates, elements, and sense bases. The so-called "empty of immovable, harmless, and immutable dharma nature" means that the non-Buddhist "self" is immovable, harmless, and immutable.
