The so-called "giving of land" refers to giving all things to all sentient beings at all times, which is an inexhaustible offering. It perfects the thirty-two marks of a great man. The so-called "accumulation of roots of virtue" refers to gathering together the roots of virtue of all sentient beings above the perfection of diligence. As stated in the sutras, even one-hundredth of the virtuous roots of a faithful person cannot be compared. Accumulating all the collections of virtuous roots in this way perfects all the excellent marks. The so-called "absence of pride" refers to abandoning pride in greatness and smallness, etc. Even immediate arrogant behavior is not unseemly, and in future lives, one will obtain a beautiful body, therefore it is the adornment of the body. The so-called "abandoning all faults of speech" refers to abandoning faults such as lying. Even immediate speech defects are not unseemly, and in future lives, one will obtain the voice of the Tathagata with many limbs, therefore it is the adornment of speech. The so-called "absence of anger towards all sentient beings" refers to the absence of hatred. Even immediate harmful thoughts are without defilement, and in future lives, one will obtain a mind without hatred, therefore it is the adornment of the mind. The various transformations of supernormal knowledge refer to having the ability to explain many transformations through the five supernormal knowledges. Therefore, it makes the Buddha-field appear in the color of lapis lazuli, etc., as well as wish-fulfilling trees and jeweled palaces, etc., which are abundant in beautiful objects, therefore it becomes the adornment of the Buddha-field. The so-called "nature of being free from desire" refers to the nature of being free from desire, which is nirvana or the realm of reality of suchness. Understanding it, because all the dharmas I have spoken are good, it becomes the adornment of the dharma. Alternatively, being free from desire itself is in accordance with the suchness of the dharma, so it is said in this way. Passing on words that have been spoken is slander. Passing on words that have not been spoken is divisive speech. Because these are absent, my retinue is also unwavering, without deceit, and upright.

Because it possesses all merits, it becomes the adornment of the retinue. The so-called not being stingy with speaking means that because one is not stingy with the Dharma, one becomes a vessel for the Dharma and an object for receiving the Dharma, therefore one can receive the Dharma. The so-called "Good, giving" means that because one has obtained the Sutras of the Tathagata that bear fruit, one is very happy and says "Good," which itself is merit. The so-called contemplating the well-spoken means that the Dharma spoken by the Tathagata is good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end. By contemplating such Dharma, there is no opportunity for the five obscurations to arise, which is complete abandonment. The Dharma of complete liberation is the noble path, because it can completely liberate from the three realms. Listening with reverence is itself an accumulation of merit. The forest of ascetic meditation is the forest of asceticism. The adornment under the Bodhi tree is the cause of manifesting enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, that is, the accumulation of merit and wisdom, or the manifestation of enlightenment itself is the adornment of the Bodhi tree. The so-called all roots of virtue go first means that because one has accumulated the virtues that can lead to Buddhahood, it becomes the adornment of the essence of Bodhi. The so-called not being defiled by all karma and afflictions means that although one is born in the three realms, one is not defiled by the faults of samsara, karma, and afflictions. Being born in samsara is also without fault, and dying and transferring from samsara is also without fault. Among them, death refers to the end of life here. Transfer refers to going from here to another existence. The so-called precious jewels and cherished things means not being attached to precious jewels such as gold and silver, and all cherished things such as sons and wives, therefore one becomes a Chakravartin king with seven treasures, or obtains the jewel in hand. Taking out an inexhaustible treasure refers to this life. Obtaining inexhaustible enjoyment refers to the next life. Radiating light equally means looking at all sentient beings equally with the mind of loving-kindness and compassion. Obtaining the adornment of equality means obtaining a mind without love and hatred for anything.
