Or, the merit arising from treating all sentient beings equally with a mind of loving-kindness. Similarly, the accumulation of merit arising from practicing virtue, such as compassion, mentioned by name, is called an accumulation of merit. "Practicing great compassion" means for the sake of attaining great compassion, the merit arising from entering into samadhi, or the merit arising from focusing on eliminating the suffering of all sentient beings with great compassion. "Engaging in all virtues" means the merit arising from having done and doing things like non-attachment. "Confessing the sins of oneself and others" means confessing the sins of killing, etc., committed by oneself under the influence of desire, hatred, and ignorance, through the three doors of body, speech, and mind, and the merit arising from causing others to confess what they have done. "Generating the initial mind" refers to those Bodhisattvas who initially generate the mind of enlightenment during the stage of practice with aspiration, or those Bodhisattvas who generate the mind of enlightenment on the first ground. "Irreversible" refers to the Bodhisattvas who abide on the eighth and ninth grounds. "Bound by one lifetime" refers to the Bodhisattvas on the tenth ground. "Truly accomplishing in the three times" means that those noble ones have performed meritorious deeds such as giving and moral conduct in the three times. The merit arising from rejoicing in their merit is also called an accumulation of merit. In the context of "generating the mind of enlightenment," those noble ones generate the mind of enlightenment by initiating their respective practices in order to attain the fruit of their respective vehicles. The root of virtue of the Buddha, the Bhagavan, refers to the virtues possessed by the Tathagatas, such as giving, moral conduct, strength, and fearlessness. Regarding "having rejoicing," rejoicing means generating joy and faith in their roots of virtue. Having means arising from its cause. Requesting the Dharma is requesting to expound the Dharma and turn the wheel of Dharma. Requesting to prolong life is for the benefit of sentient beings.
