In order not to be weary of seeking to perfect all the Buddha's teachings, such as fearlessness, etc., this is the manner of perfecting the Buddha's teachings. The inexhaustible joy has been explained. In order to show abiding in equanimity, it is said, "The venerable Sharadvati's son and others," and the inexhaustible equanimity should also be understood in a manner similar to the way of explaining inexhaustible joy and so forth. This should also be understood in two ways: the way of showing and the way of explaining. Among these, the way of showing is from "The equanimity of the Bodhisattvas is of three kinds," up to "equanimity towards time and non-time." After that, all the rest shows the way of explaining. Equanimity towards afflictions is to look equally at the two objects that may cause attachment and anger. Guarding self and others with equanimity is to not let one's own mind stream be disturbed and suffer, and also not to let others' mind stream be disturbed, maintaining equanimity. Equanimity towards time and non-time is when a Bodhisattva combines the time and the vessel, and at certain times, does not teach or practice the Dharma to certain vessels, but abandons them with equanimity. In order to extensively show what is the nature of equanimity towards afflictions, it is said, "What is equanimity towards afflictions?" and so forth. To think that one has not heard when one is valued, and to think that one is inferior when one is not valued, is an affliction. Even if one is valued, one does not think that one has not heard, and even if one is not valued, one does not think that one is inferior, this is equanimity towards afflictions. The rest should be applied in the same way. "Without pride in gain" means that even if one obtains robes and alms bowls, etc., one is not proud. Praise is speaking of one's own qualities, and dispraise is speaking of faults. In "Abiding in the Dharma nature in praise," praise is directly speaking of qualities. "Abiding in the Dharma nature" means abiding without changing one's nature. "The power of discriminating suffering" means to truly observe with wisdom the things that may become suffering.

Because of realizing that there is no self-nature, one does not think anything about it, that is its meaning. The power of realizing that happiness is impermanent and suffering means that by realizing that happiness itself will change and not stay, and will eventually become suffering, there is no attachment or arrogance towards happiness. Regarding "abandoning subsequent attachment" etc., subsequent attachment and anger are afflictions, and these two arise from friendliness and unfriendliness, so treating these two equally is to maintain equanimity towards afflictions. Equanimity of mind means that towards those who have precepts and those who break precepts, there is no thought of praise or blame, and no thought of love or anger. Non-duality means that for good deeds and bad deeds, one does not make distinctions such as "this person gave help, this person caused harm." Not looking at what is lovely and unlovely means that for objects that will generate attachment and objects that will not generate attachment, one does not look at what is lovely and unlovely, that is its meaning. Mentioning "hearing good and hearing bad," and "speaking good and speaking bad," hearing is indirect insults and praises. Speaking is direct insults and praises. Not forgetting and making it latent have the same meaning, and both are abandoned equally. There is a saying that "there is no latency from one mouth," and its meaning is also that there is no liking or holding grudges, which is a synonym. For the faults of tasting flavors, measuring equally and completely means that for the happiness of tasting flavors, and the discomfort of not finding faults when separated from it, one recognizes these two equally. Equanimity of mind towards all sentient beings means to treat all sentient beings equally. Not caring for body and life means that if one cherishes body and life, afflictions of attachment and hatred will arise because of it, so one does not cherish body and life, that is its meaning. Equal radiance for the superior, middling, and inferior means that for the sentient beings of the three vehicles, one does not regard them as superior, middling, or inferior, but looks at them equally, which is a synonym. For praise and non-praise, the mind
