Joy in expansiveness. That very joy, like the surging of water, becomes more intense, and the delight in the mind increases more and more, is rejoicing. To rejoice and have faith in the body of the Thus-Gone One means the same as rejoicing and having faith in obtaining the three bodies of the Thus-Gone One. Therefore, being skilled in seeking the adornments of excellent marks and signs means the same as being skilled in the means of obtaining them. Regarding not being weary of listening to virtuous teachings, the twelve sections of the Thus-Gone One's teachings are virtuous in the beginning, virtuous in the middle, and virtuous in the end, so they are virtuous teachings. Not being satisfied with listening to them and not being weary is itself joy, which is the same in meaning. "Diligence relying on that very Dharma" means that for the sake of realizing that very essence of Dharma, delighting in making efforts to practice the path and so forth is the meaning. Generating joy through faith in the Three Jewels and their qualities is joy. Comprehending its qualities without distortion and becoming one with the mind is faith. Being joyful or content from the perspective of focusing on the essence of Dharma is supreme joy. The joy that arises from realizing one's own nature and from the distinction of understanding the nature of Dharma elevates the mind or generates delight, is exceeding joy. In ways like these four, joy in the Dharma is devotion. "A mind without anger" means a mind without hatred towards sentient beings, which means a mind that constantly and continuously contemplates joy towards sentient beings. "Having great desire to seek the Buddha's teachings" and so forth, seeking and obtaining the Buddha's teachings, such as powers and fearlessness, desire is also joy. In this way, it shows that not abandoning the desire for the Dharma that accomplishes qualities is also joy. Having faith in the vast Buddha Dharma and liberation, and eliminating the limited vehicle, generating the mind of enlightenment and so forth, means that due to faith in the Dharma of the Buddha-ground and the perfections, not generating the mind for the small vehicle, but generating the mind for the great vehicle. Generating the mind of enlightenment without being discouraged by lack of miserliness, and so forth.

That is to say, "Being unable to give due to stinginess, or giving only a part and not all, is a timid mind." Because those who are joyful have no stinginess, they generate a fearless mind in order to give all things. "Having given alms to the beggar" means that with such a fearless mind, having given external and internal alms to the persons of the beggars, one views oneself, the beggar, and the alms as being of the nature of abandonment, which is the practice of the three wheels being completely pure, and therefore it is called extreme joy in giving. "Having faith in those who possess morality" is to have joy in the minds of those who possess morality. "To take care of and love those who are immoral" means that those whose morality is broken are the immoral. Not letting them create non-virtuous dharmas is to take care of them. Placing them in a virtuous place and benefiting them is love. "Because one's own morality is completely pure" etc., means that because one is good at guarding morality and has no faults of morality, one will not be born into the three lower realms because of this, so one can completely transcend all fears of the lower realms and thus breathe a sigh of relief. "Completely dedicating morality to the Tathagata" etc., means that because one makes one's own morality completely pure, and in order to obtain the morality of the Buddha, one dedicates it, which is its meaning. Because one will not be dominated by sinful dharmas, one is steadfast. Speaking words of slander and lineage is speaking inwardly. Speaking secretly is speaking badly, and even if one speaks these, one's mind will not be disturbed, which is patience. Not responding with bad words is determination. Pure intention is not being attached to profit and respect. Not having rudeness in one's mind is not having the thought of beating and killing sentient beings. Not having hypocrisy is not seeking ways to harm sentient beings, and not having the mind that appears to be happy outwardly but is not happy inwardly. Seeing everything as beneficial is seeing all sentient beings as beneficial, or seeing all dharmas such as seeing and hearing as beneficial with a virtuous intention.
