Now, thinking to eliminate the suffering of poverty arises from the cause of the object, therefore, it is looking at the poor. After being born in a good realm, or eliminating the suffering of cold and heat, and the suffering of being born in a bad realm, it arises from the cause of the object, so it is looking at the suffering. Wanting liberation, but eliminating the suffering of not having a guide, it arises from the cause of the object, so it is looking at the helpless. Arising from not changing the mind, it is called how after promising and vowing, it arises from the mind that does not change, so great compassion is the steadfastness of the vow, not changing from the vow. Me and the Buddha and so on, I refer to the person who does good, or the person who takes vows. The Buddha refers to the teacher, the Tathagata. The gods refer to the gods who act as power and protectors when taking vows. Destroying vows or doing evil is deceiving these three. Great compassion arises from the cause of the vows being completely pure, not deceiving me and the Buddha and the three gods, so it is looking at the truth, that is, becoming the truth. Arising from good deeds, it refers to the body not killing, not stealing, not committing adultery, etc., arising from the ten virtuous deeds, therefore, great compassion is pure conduct, the actions of body, speech, and mind are without fault. Arising from giving others extreme happiness, it refers to the cause of the perfection of generosity, giving all my happiness and enjoyment to other beings, so great compassion is abandoning my happiness, not dwelling in my happiness. Arising from not having attachment, it refers to the cause of the vows of not being happy for other beings, not being attached to the bodies and enjoyments of others, so great compassion is generating the happiness of others, not generating unhappiness such as robbing the bodies and enjoyments of others. Arising from firmly initiating diligence, it refers to initiating unwavering diligence to liberate all beings to unsurpassed Bodhi.

Having arisen from the cause of..., therefore, great compassion is bearing the burden of all sentient beings, and taking on the burden of the suffering of samsara in order to liberate all sentient beings from suffering. The so-called "arising from accepting the faults of weak sentient beings" refers to arising from the cause of the perfection of patience, which is enduring all the faults of harm done by weak sentient beings such as those of low caste and bad lineage. Therefore, great compassion is truly accepting the patience of the guru, which is synonymous with truly accepting the patience of noble beings such as Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. The so-called "arising from serving sick sentient beings" refers to: When the four great elements of sentient beings are imbalanced, for those sentient beings who have become ill, it arises from the cause of serving them with medicine and utensils. Therefore, great compassion is eliminating attachment and slander, that is, not being defiled by the faults of not helping the sick, etc., and not being slandered by others imposing taxes. The so-called "arising from completely maturing inferior sentient beings" means that great compassion not only matures sentient beings in the Great Vehicle, but also arises from the cause of the perfection of wisdom, which completely matures sentient beings who are devoted to the Lesser Vehicle. Therefore, great compassion is obtaining mastery over the Dharma, that is, being able to control all three vehicles as appropriate. The so-called "arising from proclaiming the virtues of others" means not marveling at one's own virtues, but marveling at the virtues of other sentient beings. Therefore, it arises from the cause of constantly praising the virtues of others. Therefore, great compassion is not boasting of one's own virtues, that is, not proclaiming one's own virtues to others. The so-called "arising from desiring uncontaminated bliss" means that in order to attain the bliss beyond the world, which is characterized by abandoning all defilements, it arises from the cause of enduring even the various sufferings of diligent practice. Therefore, great compassion is not caring about all the sufferings of diligent practice. The so-called "arising from doing deeds well and not regretting them" means that deeds are virtuous.
