The Pratyekabuddha Vehicle that Bodhisattvas should know is called the Bodhisattva's Pratyekabuddha Vehicle. Those who, in one kalpa, fully accumulate the collection of wisdom, attain the noble path without the instruction of others, and enter into a state free from the desires of the three realms, because they lack great compassion, do not have the activity of prophesying for others, and become Buddhas alone, therefore they are Pratyekabuddhas. The vehicle that leads those Pratyekabuddhas to the place of liberation is the Pratyekabuddha Vehicle. The question "What is it?" is asking someone who is skilled in the Pratyekabuddha Vehicle. This should be understood as threefold: cause, condition, and result. The phrase "What are those?" indicates the cause, which is a synonym for what causes are used to do things. The phrase "What condition?" indicates the condition. The phrase "Pratyekabuddhas arise" indicates the result, that is, arising from the three realms, abandoning all afflictions, and entering into nirvana, which is called the arising of Pratyekabuddhas. The phrase "to fully know as it is" means to understand the causes, conditions, and results without any distortion. To understand in this way is to be skilled in the Pratyekabuddha Vehicle, and this is how it should be understood. The phrase "What are those?" means what are those causes, conditions, and results? In order to indicate the three meanings, it is said "like this." Among them, from "desire and diligence" up to "dwelling in an extremely solitary place" indicates the cause. From "difficult to approach" up to "completely transcending with self-arisen wisdom" indicates the condition. From "attaining abiding in the object" up to "realizing wisdom through conditions on any object" indicates the result. Among them, there are three types of causes: the cause of accumulation, the cause of pleasing the Buddhas, and the lineage. Among them, accumulation is also divided into two types: what is accumulated by, and what is accumulated. Among them, what is accumulated by is accumulated by these three: desire, mindfulness, and great diligence. What is accumulated is generosity and discipline.

And the three, listening, are accumulated. How it is accumulated is also of three kinds: cause and condition, and accomplishment. Among these, the word "great" is also connected with each of the three words, such as desire, and is called great desire, great diligence, and great carefulness. Among these, desire is to have faith in the Three Jewels, truth, and karma, and to hold that only this is true and others are false. This is said to be the cause, because if one has faith, one will start diligence. Diligence means abandoning all that should be abandoned, and rejoicing in obtaining what should be obtained, which is diligence. This shows the condition, because all the accomplishment of virtue depends on diligence. Carefulness means staying alone in a secluded place and not mixing with noisy people, which is carefulness. This shows the method of accomplishment. Why? Because both what should be abandoned and what should be accomplished are accomplished with carefulness. What is accumulated is also of three kinds: accumulating the cause of enjoyment, accumulating the cause of good rebirth, and accumulating the cause of liberation. Or, accumulating the antidote to stinginess, accumulating the antidote to attachment to desire, and accumulating the antidote to afflictions. Among these, "great" means that the desire and diligence of a solitary Buddha are superior to those of a Shravaka, so it is called great. The so-called "not like a Shravaka" means that the share is greater than that of a Shravaka. The so-called "accumulation of merit of generosity, etc." shows the abandonment of the antidote to stinginess. By giving, it becomes the cause of obtaining liberation, and these are called accumulating merit. The so-called "accumulating merit with discipline" shows the accumulation of the antidote to attachment to desire. By what? What? Why is keeping the precepts discipline? By what is it kept, that is, by turning away from the ten non-virtuous deeds and keeping it with the mind that desires liberation. What is kept is keeping the six-membered precepts. Why is it kept, that is, it is kept in order to obtain Nirvana. The so-called "diligence in Dharma for those who have little hearing" is the antidote to afflictions.
