Learning and practicing without even the slightest fault, just as it has been prescribed, is called following what has been prescribed. Therefore, through this cause, the aggregate of morality is perfected, so this speaks of the cause. Furthermore, there are three aspects of practice: thoroughly practicing the state of meditative stabilization, thoroughly practicing the basis of wisdom, and thoroughly practicing what has been done. The aggregate of morality becomes completely perfect, and the term "morality" refers to the morality that possesses six branches. What are the six branches? Abiding in morality is the first branch; being restrained by the vows of individual liberation is the second branch; perfect conduct is the third branch; perfect sphere of activity is the fourth branch; even seeing fear in the slightest faults is the fifth branch; and learning after having properly taken up the bases of training is the sixth branch. How is one endowed with morality? With respect to the bases of training that have been properly taken up, one does not turn away from the limits of bodily actions, and one does not turn away from the limits of verbal actions, and one makes them not deteriorate, and one makes them without fault. How is one restrained by the vows of individual liberation? The morality of a male bhikshu, a female bhikshu, a male upasaka, a female upasika, a female bhikshu, a male shramanera, and a female shramanerika are called the vows of individual liberation. These also become many vows because they are divided into different categories, but in this context, considering the vows of a bhikshu, it is said that one is restrained by the vows of individual liberation. How is conduct perfect? Acting in that way, whether it is a mother, or a temporary affair, or even if it is thoroughly joining with virtue, it is acceptable. In all actions, one follows the world and is not despised by the world, and one follows discipline and does not act contrary to discipline. How is the sphere of activity perfect? Bhikshus, these five are not spheres of activity. What are the five? A prostitute, a tavern, a butcher's place, a king's palace, and a candala's house, it is said. Whatever the Tathagata does not...

Abandoning those objects of conduct that should be abandoned, one causes entry into other objects of conduct. How does one regard even the slightest faults as fearful? The so-called slightest faults are those that have become subtle objects of learning. If those are destroyed, one will arouse diligence in small matters. To regard this as fearful means that if those things happen to me, I will think that I must obtain what I have not obtained, realize what I have not realized, and manifest what I have not manifested. I will have no opportunity and will fall into the lower realms. Even for the sake of my life, I will not deviate from those things. How does one learn after correctly taking the objects of learning? First, at the time of taking the Pratimoksha vows, when one is fully ordained through the request and the four karmas, one hears some of the objects of learning from the preceptor and the teacher. Others are shown by indicating, "Know which ones are recited in the Pratimoksha Sutra every half month." Having thus obtained the Pratimoksha vows, from then on, one learns without adding or subtracting, having taken what was taken and what was vowed to be taken. The collection of the six branches of morality, or the collection of many moralities, is called the aggregate of morality. Starting from the initial correct taking of morality, until finally reaching the wisdom of liberation, there is not even a particle of destruction or harm. Thus, without destruction or harm, one reaches the ultimate of morality, becoming the nature of undefiled morality, which is called the complete aggregate of morality. Having explained the aggregate of morality extensively in this way, if it is summarized, one should understand that there are three aspects to the nature of the aggregate of morality: the nature of non-decline, the nature of self, and the nature of the qualities of self. Among these, the statement "endowed with morality for a moment" indicates the nature of non-decline of the discipline of morality. The statement "bound by the discipline of individual liberation" speaks of the nature of self. The statement "perfect in ritual and conduct" refers to the Pratimoksha vows that are correctly taken in reliance on others.
