death. Complete destruction refers to being killed by weapons, sticks, and other factors. Alternatively, there are three types of death: death following each moment, death by complete destruction, and death by exhaustion of causes. Among these, death following each moment refers to dying in each and every moment. Death by complete destruction refers to dying after being struck by poison, weapons, and so on. Death by exhaustion of causes refers to someone who has lived a long life and dies after their karma is exhausted. Grief and lamentation, etc., belong to the limbs of aging and death. Among these, the mental anguish that arises from the thought of being separated from loved ones and encountering unfriendly people is called grief. The utterance of various kinds of words from the cause of mental anguish is called lamentation. When the elements are disturbed, even when an object has become manifest, the senses cannot grasp it, and it is touched by the harm of delusion, this is called suffering. The arising of attachment by the senses to objects that have not become manifest is called displeasure. The cause arising from hatred, which causes the body and mind to be afflicted, is called agitation. Alternatively, being unable to give up and being attached to children and possessions, etc., is called grief. The speech that arises from grief is called lamentation. Experiencing discomfort with the five aggregates of consciousness is suffering. Mental suffering accompanied by attention is displeasure. Furthermore, remembering past faults such as being separated from serving the king and not profiting from doing business, etc., is called agitation. Thus, after explaining dependent origination in detail, in order to briefly reveal its meaning, it is said, "Thus, this great mass of suffering will arise." "Thus" means as explained above. The mass of suffering refers to having many sufferings such as the three and eight sufferings. Great because it has been continuously suffering since beginningless samsara. "This" refers to phenomena such as form. "Solely" means being free from self and what belongs to self.

is the reason. The so-called "will happen" means "will be born." Among them, the collection of limbs means that the twelve limbs of dependent origination are divided in this way, and can also be regarded as two limbs: distant cause and near cause. Among them, the distant cause is like a seed and a seedling, because it is far from the fruit. The near cause is like a flower, etc., because it is close to the fruit. Among them, the distant cause can also be viewed in three ways: who sows, what to sow, and how to sow. Who sows? It is sown by ignorance, action, and consciousness. What to sow? It is to sow name, form, six places, contact, and feeling. How to sow? It is the action produced by ignorance that sows the habits created on the Alaya consciousness. The near cause can also be viewed in three ways: who makes it manifest, what manifests, and how it manifests. Among them, who makes it manifest? It is made manifest by love, attachment, and existence. What manifests? It is birth. How does it manifest? It is that existence and attachment plant the seeds on the Alaya consciousness, like existence blooming like a flower, and producing sprouts, showing that the fault of these is old age and death. The collection of afflictions of the limbs refers to the fact that these twelve limbs of dependent origination are summarized into three types of afflictions: afflictions of all afflictions, karma of all afflictions, and birth of all afflictions. Among them, ignorance, love, and attachment are summarized as afflictions of all afflictions. Action, consciousness, and love are summarized as karma of all afflictions, and consciousness is also the basis of the habits of karma, so it is summarized here. The rest are summarized as afflictions of all births. In order to show the nature arising from the cause of selflessness, it is said that there is no movement, no author, and so on. No movement means that ignorance will not think like this, I created action. Action will not think like this, I

It is because there is no thought that formations are produced by ignorance. The reason for saying 'without an agent' is that ignorance and so on are merely the auxiliary conditions for producing formations, but they are not the nature of the agent that produces formations. The reason for saying 'without a lord' is that in these dharmas, there is no lord whatsoever with the nature of a master, such as Ishvara. The reason for saying 'without complete grasping' is that there is no blessing by anyone with self, sentient beings, persons, etc., as entities. The so-called 'arising as it abides in dharma' means that from whatever cause whatever result arises, it is said to arise as it abides in dharma. It is not from Ishvara and so on that formations arise, but from the cause of ignorance that formations arise. 'Whoever knows this,' etc., 'this' refers to quoting the word 'thus.' Whoever arises from inappropriate attention, arises from ignorance, arises from birth, and ultimately arises from old age and death, etc., knowing that it is only this, and that there are no other movers or agents, etc., apart from this, is called a Bodhisattva who is skilled in dependent origination. In order to further explain other aspects of being skilled in dependent origination, it is said, 'Furthermore, arising from a virtuous cause, or arising from a non-virtuous cause,' and so on. Virtue refers to refraining from killing, etc., and is the ten paths of virtuous actions. Arising from that cause refers to being born as gods and humans in the desire realm. Non-virtue refers to the ten paths of non-virtuous actions such as killing. Arising from that cause refers to being born in the three lower realms of the desire realm. Immovable refers to dhyana and samapatti. Arising from that cause refers to being born in the form and formless realms. Why are the actions of the two realms called immovable actions? Because these actions are the nature of one-pointedness of mind and cannot be shaken by the wind of conceptual thought, they are called immovable. Or, if one wants to know how the action of behavior is to go to another realm, but it is not so, but is driven by other conditions, just as that realm matures.
