Wishing to possess what I have is obvious craving. Clinging to and not abandoning the aggregates and implements of the present time is called obvious clinging craving. Alternatively, there are four types of craving: desire craving, existence craving, non-existence craving, and view craving. Among these, desire craving is the desire attachment of the desire realm to be abandoned by seeing and meditating. Existence craving is the desire attachment of the form and formless realms to be abandoned by seeing and meditating. Non-existence craving is the obvious attachment to liberation. View craving is the attachment to the five views, such as the view of the aggregates of destruction. Furthermore, there are four types of grasping: desire grasping, moral discipline and asceticism grasping, view grasping, and self-assertion grasping. Among these, three types of craving are called desire grasping: desire attachment, dharma attachment, and object attachment. Desire attachment is the craving that arises from the union of male and female. Attachment to the teachings of non-Buddhists is dharma attachment. Attachment to the qualities of the five desires is object attachment. Holding to ascetic practices such as those of dogs and cows is called moral discipline and asceticism grasping. Joining various views such as annihilationism and eternalism is view grasping. Viewing and clinging to the existence of a self is called self-assertion grasping. Accumulating the imprints of various actions that become the cause of linking continuity is called existence, which is of three types: desire existence, form existence, and formless existence. The distinction of accumulating various karmic imprints, causing the manifestation of those aggregates, elements, and sense bases that link continuity, is called birth. From being soft, moist, hard, and stretching limbs to youth and the peak of adolescence, the strength, power, splendor, and radiance change, which is actually aging. Alternatively, youth is destroyed, age declines, the great elements diminish, formations become old, the body becomes loose, and the limbs

Becoming loose, colors and shapes becoming unattractive, senses weakening, memory, thought, and wisdom all greatly declining, and visibly facing destruction, this is aging. Among these, the destruction of youth refers to no longer being young. The decline of age refers to being separated from the behaviors and manners of children and youths. The decline of the great elements refers to the elements such as earth becoming weak, leading to loose muscles and increased wrinkles. The aging of formations refers to losing vigor and no longer having the appearance of youth. The body becoming loose refers to the body feeling heavy when standing and sitting. Limbs becoming loose refers to legs and hands, etc., separating at the joints, losing strength and ability. Colors and shapes becoming unattractive refers to muscles and blood drying up, bones becoming visible, being covered with black moles, and being filled with wrinkles and white hair. Senses weakening refers to the senses such as the eyes becoming unclear in seeing and hearing. Memory, thought, and wisdom greatly declining refers to no longer remembering what was said and heard before, and being prone to forgetting. Visibly facing destruction refers to the moment of death approaching. Furthermore, there are two types of aging: the decline of the support and the decline of what relies on it. Among these, the decline of the support refers to the decrease of blood, muscles, fat, legs, and bones, etc., which are formed from the great elements, and therefore being unable to perform activities such as running, jumping, bending, stretching, coming, going, etc., and the body's effort and strength diminish. The decline of what relies on it refers to the senses such as the eyes becoming unclear in seeing and hearing, and therefore memory, thought, and wisdom, etc., decline, and the mind's strength and effort weaken. The weakening of the senses causes the mind and mental factors to become discordant, and this is death. When the mind and mental factors cease to function, that person is said to be dead. There are also two types of death: natural death and death by destruction. Natural death refers to dying from the exhaustion of lifespan or the exhaustion of merit.
