like the cause of preventing fire, thus the noble truths are taught, like fire is the truth of suffering, because it possesses the suffering of burning like fire. Like wood is the truth of origin, just as wood is the cause of fire arising, so also origin is the cause of suffering arising. Like the extinguishing of fire is the truth of cessation, just as the burning of fire subsides, so also the burning of suffering subsides. Like the cause of extinguishing fire is the truth of the path, because it becomes the cause of attaining cessation. Or like debt, poverty, repayment of debt, and treasure, these are the four truths. Like debt is the truth of suffering, because it always possesses the suffering of displeasure. Like poverty is the truth of origin, just as poverty causes debt to arise, so also origin causes suffering to arise. Like repayment of debt is the truth of cessation, just as when debt is repaid there is no unease of debt, so also all sufferings disappear. Like treasure is the truth of the path, just as treasure becomes the cause of repaying debt, so also the path becomes the cause of attaining cessation. In order to explain what is knowing suffering, therefore it is said that knowing suffering is knowing that the aggregates do not arise. Because they are accumulated and assembled, they are aggregates. These are the aggregates of form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness. Although these aggregates appear as illusions and mere images, they do not arise because their essence is without arising. Thus, from these five aggregates, the noble hearers do not understand suffering and impermanence, but from the beginning they know that their essence is unborn, this is knowing suffering. In order to explain knowing the origin, it is said to know how to thoroughly destroy existence. So, what is "existence"? It is what the Blessed One said in the sutra, that which causes existence to arise again, possessing joyful desire, and craving that is particularly joyful for those things.

Craving enters in three ways: the craving for existence, the craving for becoming, and the craving for sensual pleasures. Among these, the craving for existence is also the cause of the craving for existence. The craving for sensual pleasures is of two kinds: having ease of mind and being endowed with excessive attachment to those things that have been obtained; and being endowed with the desire to universally seek those things that have not been obtained. Among these, having ease of mind and being endowed with excessive attachment to those things that have been obtained is called being endowed with attachment of joy. Being endowed with the desire to universally seek those things that have not been obtained is called being manifestly delighted in them. The knowledge of well destroying is knowing the means of completely abandoning those existences. Destroying means the meaning of abandoning. Unlike the Hearers, it is not understanding the truth of arising as cause and condition, etc., but knowing the means of thoroughly abandoning craving, which is the nature of attachment, the cause of the arising of the aggregates of suffering, is called knowing the arising. In order to show the knowledge of cessation, it is said that knowing cessation means that ignorance and predispositions do not arise. That is, it should be combined with ignorance not arising and predispositions not arising. Among these, ignorance is complete delusion about that alone. Completely abandoning ignorance and then not being born in its lineage in the future is called ignorance not arising. The term predisposition refers to the predispositions of other afflictions such as attachment. Completely abandoning them and then the predispositions that do not arise in its lineage in the future are called predispositions not arising. Although predispositions are mentioned, ignorance is also mentioned, but because ignorance is the cause of the arising of all afflictions, it is mentioned separately by name in order to show that it is the main one. Alternatively, ignorance is a predisposition, so ignorance leads to predisposition. Since predispositions such as ignorance have not arisen from the beginning, there is no end, which is called ignorance and predispositions not arising. Unlike the noble Hearers, it is not thinking that the truth of cessation is peaceful and wonderful, etc., but knowing that predispositions such as ignorance have not arisen from the beginning, so there is no end, is called cessation.
