I. Gathering all those near and far and showing them is called aggregates. A person skilled in aggregates is skilled in aggregates, that is, understanding the characteristics and nature of aggregates. If asked, how does one understand the characteristics of aggregates? To show that, it is said, showing what serves as an example for the aggregates, that is, showing water bubbles and so on. This refers to the examples. Establishing something as an example that matches the nature of the aggregates is called showing what serves as an example for the aggregates, and the examples are also ten kinds such as showing water bubbles. It should be understood that those ten examples are also spoken by relying on ten meanings, that is, the meaning of no self permanence, the meaning of no self and purity, the meaning of praise, the meaning of no self and little substance, the meaning of no essence, the meaning of instability, meaningless things also become objects of experience, and the meaning of not enjoying pleasant and unpleasant pervasive enjoyment, the meaning of having no thing but making various names and speeches, the meaning of being meaningless but causing various consciousnesses to enter, the meaning of being meaningless but becoming the object of samadhi for those who hold to reality, and the meaning of being meaningless but causing bodhisattvas to take birth with non-inverted intention in order to accomplish the deeds of all sentient beings. In order to show the meaning of those things established as examples, it is said, "Why is that?" and so on. "Why is that?" refers to how those ten examples become examples of aggregates? Or why are the aggregates shown to be similar to those examples? In order to show that the characteristics of the aggregates are similar to the examples, it is said, "Form is like a water bubble," and so on. Although the word aggregate is not mentioned here, since it is the occasion for discussing aggregates, it is guided to the form aggregate. The five objects such as form, and the five faculties such as the eye, etc., are called the form aggregate. That form aggregate is similar to a water bubble. Why is that? Because of the lack of a permanent self.

Ro! To show that meaning, it is said that foam is not self, not sentient beings, and so on. For example, someone sees many bubbles flowing in a great river, like crystals with color and shape. He hopes that those bubbles have essence and self-nature, and tries to grab them with both hands, but they disappear when he tries to take them. He thinks: Alas, these are bubbles, they are false, without self-nature. Therefore, foam is not my self-nature, so know that it is not the self-nature of a person either. What is the self-nature of foam? The self-nature of form is also the same, which means that the self-nature of foam is selfless and without substance, it is false and empty. The self-nature of the aggregate of form is also the same. Observe and analyze the aggregate of form with the eye of wisdom, and if you observe carefully, you will find that it has no self and self-nature, and it exists in the nature of falseness and emptiness. Feeling is like a water bubble. Feeling is the experience of three kinds of feelings: pleasure, pain, and neither pleasure nor pain. Here, the word "aggregate" is also added. The aggregate of feeling is like a water bubble. Why? Because it is selfless and abandons purity. For example, a sentient being sees rain falling in the water, and water bubbles appear in various shapes like crystal jewels. He hopes that those water bubbles can be used as objects and decorations, and tries to grab them with both hands, but they disappear when he tries to take them, and those that are not grabbed also disappear as soon as they arise. Because he does not see that they can be used as objects, therefore, alas, these are water bubbles, without self, without self-nature, they are false. Similarly, observe the aggregate of feeling, such as pleasure and pain, with the eye and hand of wisdom, and analyze existence and non-existence, etc., and you will find that it is like a water bubble, without self and self-nature, it is false, and everything transforms into the nature of suffering, having the nature of destruction as soon as it arises. The aggregate of perception is like a mirage, so-called
