Now, the very nature of abiding in the perfection of wisdom, being united with the aspects of enlightenment, is pure. Therefore, it is called pure union. The statement "arising for the sake of individual discernment" means individually discerning which perfections each sentient being should practice. Through proper attention, existence is seen as like an illusion. Therefore, one engages intensely in benefiting sentient beings as long as samsara lasts. Thus, it is said to be the purity of benefiting sentient beings. The statement "arising for the sake of mindfulness" means striving to accomplish the benefit of all sentient beings and constantly remembering what should and should not be done. If one possesses mindfulness, one will not be robbed by tirthikas and maras, etc. Therefore, it is said to be the purity of not being led away by others. Other means different. The question "By what is great compassion gathered?" is asking about the cause, inquiring about the cause. It is gathered by non-deceit, which is synonymous with being produced by non-deceit. Non-deceit is gathered by a mind that is equal towards all sentient beings. Any mind that is not equal towards all sentient beings is definitely deceitful. The cause of an equal mind is non-differentiation and action without differentiation. Similarly, elsewhere, when asked why something arises, one would say it arises from what cause. These do not agree with the words spoken. For example, the phrase "not forgetting the instructions" shows non-deceit, and later, "well holding the instructions, attending to conditioned phenomena" explains the intention of having an equal mind towards all sentient beings. Here, if it is said that well holding the instructions itself is the cause of attending to conditioned phenomena, then the mind of equality towards all sentient beings will become the cause of non-deceit. If that is the case, then great compassion will not become the root cause of enlightenment. The statement "gathering as cause" and "gathering as result" means that the former is the cause of generating bodhicitta, and the latter is the result. Therefore, it is called gathering as cause and result. In the four types of bodhicitta gathered by the ten bhumis, bodhicitta

The fifth is included in the Extremely Joyful Ground. That related to conduct is included in the Immaculate Ground and the other six. Non-retrogression is included in the Immovable Ground and so forth. One lifetime remaining is included in the tenth ground itself. The fourth, twelve aspects, means that the first generation of bodhicitta is regarded as the cause related to conduct, and so forth. One lifetime remaining is regarded as the cause related to the result, and so forth. The cause is the nature of the collection of merit and wisdom. The result is the Buddha himself. The relationship is regarded as arising from that, and is synonymous with the cause of Buddhahood. The explanation of this fourth is that the cause is not wasted from higher to higher, that is, the cause of the later arising mind is the former, and the cause always exists in its cause, so the cause is not wasted. That is to say, the first generation of bodhicitta is the cause of the relationship itself. The other two, that related to conduct, non-retrogression itself, and so forth, are the power of the cause, because it is shown that it has become like that. Thus, the first fourth, which is in accordance with the result, shows the place of the cause. Son of the gods, again, like sowing seeds, and so forth, the second fourth, which is suitable as a cause, shows that the result also exists. Sowing is creation, because it creates the good seeds of all the virtuous dharmas of the first generation of bodhicitta. The first generation of bodhicitta, which exists in the manner of a seed, from which the sprout corresponding to it is manifested. That dharma is the second generation of bodhicitta, from which the sprouts of all virtuous dharmas arise, from the stream of wisdom that includes its manifestation, creation, and accompaniment. The second generation of bodhicitta, which exists in the manner of a sprout, from which the third generation of bodhicitta corresponding to it arises, such as the nature of the trunk and so forth, which includes the three, such as immovability, from the stream of wisdom that does not accompany manifestation and creation, all the Buddha's dharmas will be perfected without effort. Therefore, the fourth generation of bodhicitta is the generation of bodhicitta
