They do not think that they are doing the work of the field of seed consciousness. The so-called "craving," etc., is like this: craving also does not think that it is doing the work of moistening the seed consciousness. The so-called "ignorance," etc., ignorance also does not think that it is planting the seed consciousness. The so-called "consciousness," etc., does not think that it is generated by these causes and conditions, but the seed consciousness exists. The abode of karma and afflictions is called seed consciousness. Ignorance nourishes like fertilizer, and the water of craving nourishes it. The so-called "ignorance like fertilizer" is because it is like fertilizer, following everything. The so-called "fertilizer nourishes" is covering with fertilizer. The so-called "the water of craving nourishes" is that craving itself is water. The so-called "nourishes" is moistening. From the cause, the name and form, the sprout arises and appears. The so-called "from the cause, the name and form, the sprout arises and appears" is that when causes and conditions gather, the sprout of name and form manifests. The so-called "sprout of name and form," etc., is not generated by oneself or others, etc. These name and form are not produced by oneself or others, etc. Then, what is it like? It is said: Parents meet, and the times do not contradict. The so-called "parents meet," etc., is that parents are completely united, gathered, and not discordant, able to form a fetus, and the time is appropriate. Three days have passed, and it is free from bad blood, which is called the time of women. At that time, they also meet with men, possess semen and blood, and the nature of Gandharva also becomes inverted, and if they like the actions of their parents, then they will experience the process of being born in the womb, from a soft state to a vague state, to a slender state, to a round state, surpassing the stage of changes in hands and feet, and then experiencing ten stages such as childhood, youth, middle age, adulthood, and old age. Therefore, it is also said:

Slightly related to karma is what is called the seed consciousness. It gradually grows in the mother's womb, producing the sprout of name and form. However, when the father and mother unite, and there is menstruation, and other conditions are gathered, the seed consciousness with experience in the mother's womb can manifest the sprout of name and form. When conditions are complete and the causes are not contradictory, like an illusion, without self, without attachment, birth also exists. Therefore, the Blessed One said that for ownerless dharmas, without self, without attachment, with the nature of illusion, causes and conditions are all complete. Ownerless means that the nature of the inner agent, such as the person, is not found. Here, whatever is produced by manifest clinging is universal clinging. Dharma means the nature of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases. Without self means being separated from self and what belongs to self. Without attachment means that attachment to Ishvara and others is not found. The nature of illusion means that just as illusion does not exist, but can accomplish various expressions, similarly, for all dharmas of the nature of illusion, various appearances such as actions can be found. Except for the gathering of cause and condition, not even a little of the dharmas such as cause and condition will arise or cease. In any case, in order to understand that things do not arise because causes and conditions are incomplete, for example: eye consciousness also arises from five causes. It is said. This means that eye consciousness arises from five causes. What are the five? And so on. That is: eye and form, as well as light, space, and attention. It is said, therefore, relying on the eye, form, light, space, and the attention produced by them. Here, eye means that in order to see form, the eye faculty must be complete. Therefore, the Blessed One said that the eye is the basis of consciousness and performs its function. Light means

Namely, the moon, stars, fire, medicine, and the light of jewels, etc., for things to be manifested, light is also near at hand. The sky is also not incomplete due to its non-obscuring nature. The attention that generates it is also not incomplete for the object of thought. From the completeness of these five, eye consciousness arises. If any of these factors of eye consciousness is missing, eye consciousness will not arise; if it exists, it will arise. They do not think, 'I will generate it.' It is like the arising of non-conceptualization. That is, the eye faculty does not think, 'I will perform the function of being the support of eye consciousness.' Form also does not think, 'I will perform the function of being the object of eye consciousness.' Light also does not think, 'I will perform the function of manifesting eye consciousness.' The sky also does not think, 'I will perform the function of non-obscuring eye consciousness.' The attention that generates it also does not think, 'I will perform the function of thinking about eye consciousness.' Eye consciousness also does not think, 'I am generated by these causes.' However, just as eye consciousness arises when these causes exist, and does not arise when they do not exist. The ear faculty and so on are also like this; the order of arising is the same. Similarly, the order of arising from the five causes should also be understood for the ear faculty and so on. From the assembly of cause and condition, free from agents and so on, free from grasping at self, arising is also like before. Therefore, one should know that all are causes of dependent origination. Thus, for the order of cause and condition just explained, one should understand the arising, abiding, and ceasing of all phenomena. There is no dharma that goes from this world to that world, but from cause and condition, the result of karma is manifested. Among them, dharma refers to the dharmas of eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, mind, etc., as well as form, sound, smell, taste, etc.
