A Detailed Explanation of the Mahayana Sutra Called "Noble Śāli Stamba," by Nāgārjuna. A Detailed Explanation of the Mahayana Sutra Called "Noble Śāli Stamba." By Nāgārjuna. In Sanskrit: Ārya Śāli Stamba Mahāyāna Sūtra Ṭīkā. In Tibetan: A Detailed Explanation of the Mahayana Sutra Called "Noble Śāli Stamba." Homage to Noble Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta! In this context, regarding "limitless qualities, inconceivable," the term "limitless qualities" refers to qualities such as strength, fearlessness, and non-confusion. Gods and humans cultivate, rely on, become accustomed to, meditate on, manifest, and attain these qualities for the sake of merit. These are many qualities, which are limitless and inconceivable. Therefore, to summarize, the inconceivable nature of qualities is because it completely transcends the realm of the assembly and mind of all Śrāvakas, Pratyekabuddhas, all ordinary beings, and all logicians. Therefore, it possesses these qualities that are limitless and inconceivable. What is it? It is said: "Perfect Buddha, Lord of Compassion," which means: because of awakening perfectly and without error, it is the Perfect Buddha. Because of truly understanding that all phenomena are impermanent, suffering, empty, selfless, and so forth, and the selflessness of phenomena and persons as they are, it is a Buddha. Or, like a lotus flower opening, wisdom expands, so it is a Buddha. Because it is a Buddha, it is a Buddha, just as when a person awakens from sleep, in the sleep of ignorance of beings, one attains the arising of correct wisdom without error, therefore it is called Buddha. Or, because it causes unintelligent beings to awaken, it is a Buddha. Just as one relies on others, each individually realizes the suchness of the Dharma that is self-realized, similarly, for beings with minds wandering on wrong paths, cherishing birth, old age, sickness, death, and so on in the wilderness of samsara, in the dense forest of various views, the afflictions of...

Those others who are completely wandering around, filled with the terror of evil, are also placed on the true path, and for the sake of entering the unsurpassed great city of liberation, they are called Buddhas. The Lord of Compassion refers to the nature of compassion, and is compassion in order to eliminate afflictions, karma, and suffering. Whoever possesses the nature of compassion, whose very essence exists, is the nature of compassion. He is the perfect Buddha, and also the nature of compassion, therefore the perfect Buddha is the nature of compassion, therefore to the Buddha, the nature of compassion. "Reverently bowing to the young Salu tree," it is said. "Reverently bowing" means after offering correctly, paying homage with reverence, respect, and devotion. After paying homage, what should be done? "The young Salu tree," it is said, "the commentary combined with the sutra, the treatise in verse form, will be explained." Therein, "limitless qualities, inconceivable." This shows the perfection of one's own benefit. "The nature of compassion," this expresses the perfection of the benefit of others. "Perfect Buddha" means that Buddha is the meaning of enlightenment, therefore it is omniscience. "Limitless qualities, inconceivable." This refers to being separated from attachment and so on. Afflictions and near afflictions, etc., are non-qualities, because they are incompatible with qualities. Therefore, the omniscient one, the one free from attachment, the perfect Buddha, thus nourishes the son. "The nature of compassion" means that whoever is omniscient and free from attachment, the teacher, without concealing metaphors, teaches others the Dharma of how to awaken, which shows the perfection of the benefit of others for the sake of benefiting others. Thus, the perfect Buddha, who possesses the perfection of one's own benefit and the benefit of others, is revered. Thus, since it is a word with intention, one is asked what the one with intention desires, and one replies: "It will be explained." What will be explained? One replies: "The treatise combined with the Sutra of the Young Salu Tree, in verse form." When first beginning the treatise, the connection
