Mongoose, mouse, lion, tiger, bear, brown bear, wolf, cat, fish, turtle, crocodile, crocodile that kills babies, snake, ant, wasp, butterfly, scorpion, ant, worm, anthill, cricket, louse, insect, aquatic animals, parrot, squirrel, cuckoo, peacock, swan, crane, tern, crow, vulture, owl, hoopoe, beautiful-winged ones, etc., beings whose dwelling is uncertain, dwelling in the appearance of consciousness by the power of others due to the habitual tendencies of their own actions. Thus, beings are differentiated by various differences in birthplaces, and therefore there are common and uncommon differences called sentient beings and the vessel world, etc., and everything that arises from grasping as a whole is gathered into one and called the desire realm. It is also said that due to the differences in realms, actions, and birthplaces, there are thirty-six forms of the desire realm and the realm of existence. Six gods, twelve humans, sixteen hells, as well as animals, hungry ghosts, and asuras. Such forms arise from the habitual tendencies of various kinds of conceptualizations, and whatever is not known, cannot be completely determined, is obscured and unclear, cannot be comprehended, is completely unknown darkness, as well as the past extreme, the future extreme, the middle, the cause, the action, the result, the truth, the Three Jewels, suffering, arising, cessation, and the path that is not understood, that is ignorance, which is the obscuration of the three realms. Therefore, it is said in the sutra: Regarding these six realms, whether it is recognized as single, or recognized as a whole, whether it is recognized as permanent, or recognized as solid, whether it is recognized as happiness, or recognized as self, whether it is recognized as sentient being, or recognized as life, whether it is recognized as a man, or recognized as a person, whether it is recognized as born of power, or recognized as power, whether it is recognized as I, or recognized as mine, such various kinds of not understanding are called ignorance. Thus it was proclaimed. Among them, the earth element is unique because it is eight substances.

It should not be perceived as solid. Minute Particles are not of the nature of mutual accumulation, therefore they should not be perceived as a whole. Because they are involved in causal connection, they should not be perceived as permanent. Because they do not last long, there is no perception of them as real. Because they perish as soon as they are born, there is no perception of them as stable. Because they are endowed with the suffering of formation and change, there is no perception of them as happiness. Because they are composed of thirty-six kinds of impure substances, there is no perception of them as pure. Because they are the elements and the many substances transformed from the elements, there is no perception of them as self. Because they are blessed by mind and mental factors, there is no perception of them as sentient beings. Because there is no action, there is no perception of them as life. Furthermore, because they are free from going and coming, there is no perception of them as persons. Because they are free from the conceited mind of "I" and "mine," there is no perception of them as men and boys. Because they are free from the name "I" and the name "mine," etc., it is not appropriate to perceive them as men, etc. Thus, the six elements not knowing their own nature, such as impermanence, is called ignorance. That which is called ignorance is not knowledge, therefore it is ignorance. It is not the absence of knowledge, because absence is nothing at all. Ignorance is another knowledge different from knowledge. Therefore, it is neither a negation of absence nor another. What is it then? It is contradictory. Ignorance is not ignorance; that which contradicts the dharma of knowledge is called ignorance. Above the god who controls others' emanations, up to the seventeen places, the various manifestations of consciousness are the form realm. Its arising is due to the common and uncommon distinctions of sentient beings and the vessel world, arising from the power of conceptual thought. These places are the twelve places of Brahma's retinue, etc., possessing the three aspects of meditating on the four dhyanas, and the five pure abodes, possessing the alternating meditation on the four dhyanas. Among them, the first are Brahma's retinue, Brahma's attendants, and Great Brahma. The second are Limited Light, Immeasurable Light, and Radiant Light.
