Knowledge with outflows, whose nature is obscured and not predicted, is the essence of the four afflictions, such as ignorance of self. Accompanied by these four afflictions—ignorance of self, pride in self, view of self, and attachment to self—is what is called the afflicted mind, which is collectively called name and form. "When the elements gather, it is desired that the body be born." This refers to the six elements just mentioned. "When gathered" means without anything lacking. "Body" refers to the aggregate formed from the elements and what arises from the elements. "Born" means will arise. "Desired" means to infer accordingly, thinking that there is no agent, etc., here. "They are not born with the thought of 'I' and 'mine'." This means that we do not think that we created them, nor do they think that they created us; there is no mutual discrimination between them. "If those exist, then there will be birth; if those do not exist, then there will be no arising." If the conditions are not present, the body cannot arise. When the internal conditions, such as earth, etc., are without lack, then the body will arise from the aggregation; if there is lack, the body will not arise. "They do not possess self, etc., nor are they anyone's." The earth element is not self, because it is free from the conceit of 'I' and 'mine'. It is not a sentient being, because it is free from mind, intellect, and consciousness. It is not life, because it has no movement. It is not a creator, because it is free from what is to be created and the creator. It is not born of power, because it is free from power. It is not a seed of power, because it does not have something like a seed of power residing within. It is not female, not male, not hermaphrodite, because it does not have the nature of internal female, male, and hermaphrodite. "Not I and mine" means that it is free from the conceit of self and what belongs to self. "Nor is it anyone's" means that it is free from the agent, action, and activity of Ishvara, etc. Similarly, water, fire, wind, space, and

Moreover, it should be known that the realm of what is known is not self, not sentient being, not life, not a being, not born of power, not woman, not man, not hermaphrodite, not I, not self-nature, and not anyone else's, including Ishvara. Whatever clings to and conceives of a single mote, etc., that is ignorance obscuring the three realms of existence. So, what is ignorance? It is said to be what obscures the three realms of existence. The three realms of existence are the three realms: the realm of desire, the realm of form, and the realm of formlessness. These can also be divided into two types by the terms sentient beings and the world of containers. Furthermore, they can be classified into three types of knowledge based on the distinctions of realms, migrations, and birthplaces. How so? It is said that, in the realm of desire, the knowledge of the thirty-six places perceives the nature of common and uncommon appearances as a single whole, and because it is grasped by clinging and conception, it is called ignorance. These thirty-six places are the eight great hot hells and the eight great cold hells, namely: Punarjivana (藏文:ཡང་སོས་,梵文天城体:पुनर्जिवन,梵文罗马拟音:punar jīvana,汉语字面意思: पुनर्जिवन), Kalasutra (藏文:ཐིག་ནག་,梵文天城体:कालसूत्र,梵文罗马拟音:kālasūtra,汉语字面意思: कालसूत्र), Samghata (藏文:བསྡུས་འཇོམ་,梵文天城体:संघात,梵文罗马拟音:saṃghāta,汉语字面意思: संघात), Raurava (藏文:ངུ་འབོད་,梵文天城体:रौरव,梵文罗马拟音:raurava,汉语字面意思: रौरव), Mahararava (藏文:ངུ་འབོད་ཆེན་པོ་,梵文天城体:महारौरव,梵文罗马拟音:mahāraurava,汉语字面意思: महारौरव), Tapana (藏文:ཚ་བ་,梵文天城体:तपन,梵文罗马拟音:tapana,汉语字面意思: तपन), Pratapana (藏文:རབ་ཏུ་ཚ་བ་,梵文天城体:प्रतापन,梵文罗马拟音:pratāpana,汉语字面意思: प्रतापन), Avici (藏文:མནར་མེད་པ་,梵文天城体:अवीचि,梵文罗马拟音:avīci,汉语字面意思: अवीचि), these eight are called the hot hells; Atta (藏文:ཨ་ཆུ་ཟེར་བ་,梵文天城体:अट्ठ,梵文罗马拟音:aṭṭha,汉语字面意思: अट्ठ), Atta (藏文:ཀྱི་ཧུད་ཟེར་བ་,梵文天城体:अट्ठ,梵文罗马拟音:aṭṭha,汉语字面意思: अट्ठ), Huhu (藏文:སོ་ཐམ་ཐམ་པ་,梵文天城体:हुहु,梵文罗马拟音:huhu,汉语字面意思: हुहु), Atata (藏文:ཆུ་བུར་ཅན་,梵文天城体:अटट,梵文罗马拟音:aṭaṭa,汉语字面意思: अटट), Nila (藏文:ཆུ་བུར་རྡོལ་བ་,梵文天城体:नील,梵文罗马拟音:nīla,汉语字面意思: नील), Kumuda (藏文:པདྨ་ལྟར་གས་པ་,梵文天城体:कुमुद,梵文罗马拟音:kumuda,汉语字面意思: कुमुद), Saugandhika (藏文:པདྨ་ཆེན་པོ་ལྟར་གས་པ་,梵文天城体:सौगन्धिक,梵文罗马拟音:saugandhika,汉语字面意思: सौगन्धिक), Utpala (藏文:ཨུཏྤལ་ལྟར་གྱེས་པ་,梵文天城体:उत्पल,梵文罗马拟音:utpala,汉语字面意思: उत्पल), these eight are called the cold hells because they are of a cold nature; the ephemeral ones, the neighboring ones, the places of the pretas, the places of the animals, the places of the asuras, the four continents, and the eight intermediate continents. Among these, the places of the pretas are in desolate wastelands and remote monasteries. Other scattered places are villages, cities, towns, cemeteries, mountains, pastures, foothills, islands, rivers, wind, lakes, ponds, wells, gardens, residences, temples, houses of the Matris, abodes of the Nagas, wastelands, small lakes, trees, empty houses, highways, riverbanks, and monastery sites.
