Contact arises from the condition of the six sense sources. Feeling arises from the condition of contact. Craving arises from the condition of feeling. Grasping arises from the condition of craving. Becoming arises from the condition of grasping. Birth arises from the condition of becoming. Old age and death, as well as sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, and agitation, arise from the condition of birth. Thus, this entire great mass of suffering arises. Thus it is said. The twelve links, from affliction, the nature of birth, etc., are three parts, arising from cause and condition, abandoning the agent, etc. Affliction, karma, and birth, the nature of other-dependence, this is also established separately by three parts, namely, the nature of other-dependence of affliction, and the nature of other-dependence of karma, and the nature of other-dependence of birth. Among these, the nature of other-dependence of affliction has three links, namely, ignorance, craving, and grasping. The nature of other-dependence of karma has two links, namely, formation and becoming. The characteristic of the other-dependence of birth is the remaining seven links, namely, consciousness, name and form, the six sense sources, contact, feeling, birth, and old age and death. Furthermore, the word "furthermore" should be regarded as inclusive, including sorrow, lamentation, discomfort, agitation, etc., as well as separation from the beloved, encountering the unloved, not obtaining what is desired, etc. Thus, this twelve-linked dependent origination should be known as three natures. Moreover, it should be known as separate from the agent, etc., and from nature. Extensive Explanation of the Salu Green Spike Sutra, Volume Three. If there is no ignorance in the beginning, there will be no death in the end. Called, if there is no ignorance in the beginning, called if ignorance does not exist, then formations will not arise. Similarly, if there is nothing between old age and death, one will not fall into sorrow, etc. Other than these, there is no self or mine anywhere. Called, among these, ignorance also thinks, I create formations.

From not thinking that one has accomplished sorrow, etc., up to old age and death, one does not think that one has accomplished sorrow, etc. Similarly, formations, etc., do not think that we have been accomplished by ignorance, etc., up to old age and death, nor do we think that we have been accomplished by birth, etc. If ignorance arises first, then ultimately death will also appear. This means that because of the existence of ignorance, formations, etc., are accomplished and arise, so because of the existence of old age and death, sorrow and lamentation, etc., are accomplished and arise. Thus, this is the inner cause. This means that in this way, one should observe the inner dependent arising as cause and relation. If asked: How does one observe the inner dependent arising in relation to conditions? It is said: The conditions for this are sixfold. This refers to the inner. Condition refers to assembly. Sixfold refers to six types. The last is consciousness, the first is earth. This is what is considered the inner condition. In order to fully show consciousness at the end, it is said that the last is consciousness. The first is called earth. Therefore, it is said in the sutra: The six elements are assembled, namely earth, water, fire, wind, space, and consciousness, etc., one should observe the inner dependent arising in relation to conditions. Hardness and subsequent gathering, ripening and breath increase, enlightenment itself. This means, what is the inner earth element? Whatever is related to the body, such as hardness, roughness, coarseness, hardness, hair, body hair, nails, teeth, dust, dirt, skin, flesh, sinews, bones, etc., and any other small substance that exists in this body, all of that is gathered together and called the earth element. Subsequent gathering refers to what is related to gathering, softness, entanglement, forming lumps, wetness, such as tears, dust, phlegm, mucus, fat, feet, semen, urine, feces, blood, pus, etc.
