Burning. Similarly, if one desires sovereignty, the cause of fire is another fire, but sovereignty has no cause. If one wishes to burn everything through the continuous progression of fire, it is not permissible to be like fire, since sovereignty is immutable. Thus, if one accepts sovereignty as the agent, there are many faults. Therefore, the Blessed One said that the arising of things cannot be done by sovereignty. Others believe that everything is transformed by time. They say this: The arising and abiding of things are done by time; the arising and abiding of things are indeed done by time. To this, it is said: What is called time here? Is it permanent? Is it impermanent? Is it male? Is it female? Is it of a hermaphroditic nature? Is it a god? Is it a flesh-eater? Is it embodied? Is it disembodied? Is it with action? Is it endowed with inaction? If it is permanent, it cannot depend on it. Simultaneous arising is also impossible, because it is contradictory, so it is not desired. If it is impermanent, it is not time, because it is related to cause and condition. If it is said to be male, female, and hermaphrodite, etc., whatever is said is contradictory. If it is said to be embodied, disembodied, with action, etc., then they are mutually contradictory. If it is permanent, because it is unchanging, action and activity will be contradictory. Thus, those who speak of time, believing that the arising, abiding, and destruction of things are due to the power of time, this is also unreasonable, so that is not good either. The sun, moon, stars, seasons, years, and so on, and the inner and outer things, because they are of the nature of going and moving, are called time, therefore, the arising, abiding, and destruction of things cannot be transformed by time. Furthermore, those who speak of nature believe that all inner and outer things arise from nature, and the nature of things is only that, and there is no cause that produces or destroys things, such as the nature of hardness, wetness, warmth, lightness, softness, sharpness, and sweetness, sourness, saltiness, bitterness, and the distinction of non-sentient beings, etc.

Five, such as humans and animals, kings, Brahmins, inferior castes, etc., good deeds and bad deeds, happiness and suffering always exist. Thus, due to the dualistic thought of self-nature, the mind is confused, and it should be said like this: Because change is seen in self-nature, it contradicts direct perception and so on. Whatever has change, how can it become unchanging? In many different appearances, birth and destruction appear. If it is related to birth and death, how can it become unchanging? Because self-nature is unchanging, if the person and so on are meaningless, then the fruits of caste, kings, fields, etc., will also appear. If self-nature changes, then saying permanence will fail. Therefore, these paths of saying cause and condition are reasonable. In this way, since saying self-nature is also mutually contradictory, the arising, abiding, and ceasing of things cannot arise from self-nature, so it is said. If so, the arising, abiding, and ceasing of things will become causeless. Others who say causelessness think that things arise and cease only without cause. If one admits saying causelessness, because there is no definite cause, what is done will become futile, and one will also encounter what is not done, without certainty. Good deeds and bad deeds, etc., father and son, Brahmin and king castes, Vaishya and Shudra castes, dog eaters, etc., clean and unclean, what should be done and what should not be done, what can be eaten and what cannot be eaten, gods and meat eaters, etc., giving and taming, proper discipline, recitation, asceticism, fasting, meditation, offerings, knowledge and ignorance, etc., because there is no definite cause, the differences between each other cannot be definitely established. Therefore, since one will fall into those faults, saying causelessness is also not established, because it contradicts the world and so on. Any other saying of Ishvara, atoms, etc., causes that do not conform to causelessness, should also be refuted by this. Therefore, for me
