Those who renounce Bodhicitta, Should study and accomplish the benefit of sentient beings, Of the aggregates and other dharmas, Meditate well on their lack of inherent existence. The conduct of Brahma, without decline, Should be practiced with great diligence. The Hearers and Bodhisattvas, Are the conventional truth and the ultimate truth. Taking and guarding the vows, Is considered the conventional truth. The four immeasurables, Approaching and relying on the ultimate truth, Wishing to liberate beings from suffering and, The cause of suffering itself. That is said to be great compassion, Like the good light of the autumn moon. Wishing to place beings in, Supreme bliss is loving-kindness. All of space is ultimately, Equal to the light of indigo. Skilled in benefiting others, That sentient being who is inclined towards Bodhi, Seeing them, being satisfied is the characteristic of joy, Like the light of a red lotus. Acquisition and other worldly dharmas, Abandoning all of them, The yogi who generates that samadhi, Is like the light of a lotus petal of equanimity. Nature and characteristics, Result and manifest action, The compassion of emptiness and so on, Should be known to be embraced in sequence. The four abodes of Brahma, The fourfold distinctions should be constantly meditated upon. Through that door of liberation, If one has not embraced them, These are with outflows. These two conducts of Brahma, Are for the sons of the Victorious Ones. Those who possess discipline, learning, and thought, Should diligently engage in meditation. Abandoning the afflictions of one's own and others' minds, And dwelling in solitude, Food and other things, Being content with just sustaining life. This very characteristic that is spoken of, That person who possesses it is complete. In the beginning of the path to Bodhi, One becomes a vessel for meditation, not otherwise. The pleasures and enjoyments of samsara, Are desired as desire itself. With that distracted mind, Becoming accustomed to the path is very distant. Arising from the increase of hearing and thinking, Abandoning desire and existence, The virtue that is in accordance with liberation, Obtaining that is a young Buddha-child. The path of meditation is twofold, Ordinary beings and noble ones, The distinction is with outflows and without outflows. The path of seeing is called without outflows. This is the chapter on explaining the vows from entering the path of the Victorious Ones.

Eighth Chapter. Thus, the precious mind that has arisen, With the intention to protect it, Things that are beneficial and not beneficial, Should be known in order to be adopted or abandoned in sequence. The distinctions of what should be abandoned are nature and, The transgressions that have been established. Transgressions, non-virtuous actions, Should be explained by dividing and further dividing. Transgressions by their very nature, are these ten non-virtuous deeds. The ripening of karma is unbearable suffering, these should be completely abandoned. Killing is, without error, Intentionally killing living beings. Taking what is not given is taking the wealth of others, Using force or stealth to make it one's own. Wanting to engage in what should not be engaged in, adultery has four aspects. Lying is transforming the understanding, Of the meaning of words that are clearly understood. The three consciousnesses of eye, ear, and mind, Whatever is experienced by the three, Seeing, hearing, and distinguishing consciousness, And understanding, are explained in sequence. Slander is for the sake of separating others, The words of an afflicted mind. Harsh words are unpleasant, Conquering all afflictions. Furthermore, it is also of an afflicted mind, Flattering words accompanied by song and dance, The words of evil treatises. Covetousness is wrongly desiring the wealth of others, Harmful intent is hating sentient beings. Seeing that there is no virtue or non-virtue, This is a wrong view, regarding this, Three or seven are also actions. Regarding this, the ripening of karma at all times, Is said to be entirely in hell, The cause is the same, the cause and effect are the same, It is experienced right here on earth. The owner wants the meaning of external objects, Arising in a reversed and confused manner. For the sake of suffering and killing, And for the sake of lacking glory, there are three results. Preparation, the main action, and subsequent actions, In stages, according to the order. The cause is the same, by killing, Life is short, and the body is afflicted with disease, By taking what is not given, One becomes poor, and the king and, Thieves, etc., will exhaust one's wealth. Those who engage in adultery with desire, The wife Will be unfaithful to others. Speaking falsely will be slandered, Slander will separate friends. Speaking harshly will hear unpleasant things, Idle talk, even if it is well-spoken, Is not listened to, becoming a laughingstock for others. Covetousness will make desire, Strong, and exhaust enjoyment. Harmful intent will make hatred strong, And the body will also become bad.
