Entering the Path of the Conquerors Entering the Path of the Conquerors In Sanskrit: Dena Marga Avanara. In Tibetan: Entering the Path of the Conquerors. I prostrate to all the Gurus, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas! Whoever has latent tendencies and all the hosts of demonic enemies, by the power of truly taking up the antidote, certainly subdues them, and the supreme Bodhi is endowed with increase. The all-knowing Sugata, whose nature is the nectar of compassion, the protector, the excellent teacher, the lord of power. To him, the supreme Guru, and the Sangha, I always respectfully pay homage. By taking up the antidote completely, all opposing factors should be abandoned, supreme Bodhi should be realized, and the welfare of beings should be desired. This entering the path of the conquerors, as briefly summarized according to the scriptures, is done for one's own realization, by the virtuous and wise monk Jampal Zangpo, who is called a seeker of Dharma. Because he earnestly requested it, and for the sake of greatly increasing my own familiarity, I speak after examining it with my own wisdom. If one becomes familiar with the field of practice, one will possess the wisdom of the ultimate meaning. Because of desiring perfect Bodhi, one should also strive in giving alms. In short, the difficulty of finding leisure and endowment, the nature of impermanence and the suffering of attachment, the suffering of beginningless existence, the desire to liberate beings from the ocean of suffering, as well as the qualities of a glorious Guru, the generation of Bodhicitta and vows, the ten non-virtues and their results, the carelessness of desire, women, and alcohol, latent tendencies and likewise, the afflictions close to the main ones and selflessness, the wheel of dependent origination, and the four noble truths, listening to the sacred Dharma and so on, the ten perfections that are taught, the conventional truth and the ultimate truth, the three aspects of ugliness, and also the recollection of breathing in and out, the path of joining and the path of seeing, the path of meditation and likewise, the paths known as special paths, purifying all the grounds, fully ripening and speaking of the four bodies, likewise, there are also aspiration prayers. This entering the path of the conquerors, if it is summarized and spoken, thus exists in thirty chapters in order. This is the chapter on the brief summary from Entering the Path of the Conquerors, which is the first chapter.

It is extremely difficult to obtain the state of being human. It is highly praised to fully take birth, and it is highly praised to have a country without harm and fear. It is rare to be without illness and with complete faculties, and even after possessing youth, to have a long life. One is frightened by being tossed about in the river of suffering of samsara. It is rare to have clothes and food without difficulty, to have the wisdom to discern whether there is essence or not, for Buddhas to appear and for them to teach the Dharma, to desire to hear the Dharma and to be diligent, and to attend to glorious and holy lamas, and to contemplate and meditate on what has been heard. Thus, the Teacher said that in times of destruction, in the one unified ocean greatly agitated by the wind, it is as difficult to find as a turtle that emerges from the yoke-hole after a hundred years, with its neck fitting into the yoke-hole. Compared to what was said before, it is even more special that each of these is more difficult to obtain than the last. Therefore, having obtained the precious leisure and endowment well, accomplish the purpose of being born as a human being. If you do not think of benefiting from this, how will you ever obtain the leisure and endowment that has been spoken of in the future? Examine and analyze with the instructions of the glorious lama and your own intelligence, with wisdom. This is the second chapter on the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment in the stages of the path to enlightenment. From the moment of birth, before all beings, dwells the merciless one called death, the great terror, which is extremely difficult to avert and causes fear. Mothers and fathers, as well as sons, brothers and sisters, and wives, relatives, friends, and even enemies, are all killed by Yama. Children, the elderly, the young, the strong, and those with excellent forms, those with youth and those without youth, are devoured by shameless death. Emperors, human rulers, fools, and so on, Brahma and other gods, Naga kings like Dhanada, all of these are devoured by death. Meditators and those with knowledge, the peaceful, the tolerant, the supremely compassionate, those who give and those who perform virtuous deeds, those who have reached the other shore of various sciences, the happy, the wealthy, the eloquent, the skilled speakers, and the Dharma speakers are all destroyed by death, which spares no one. There is no favoritism or partiality, no respect for the faithful or the reverent, no boundaries or considerations. Death occurs everywhere. Vessels and
