If one clings to self, then desire cannot be stopped, That (desire) itself is coarse and separate, etc., Now still grows due to arrogance. That is also spoken of as like an illusion, Because it is not the realm of discriminating thought. Because the realm of discriminating thought is vast, Therefore, I have not elaborated here, The meaning of that (elaboration) lies in reasoning and, In the treatises of Madhyamaka. By the distinction of dharma and pudgala, It is considered that selflessness is of two kinds. In the "Entering the Middle Way," What Chandrakirti said was: This selflessness is for the liberation of beings, It is said to be of two kinds by the distinction of dharma and pudgala. Having divided that (two kinds of selflessness) into many kinds, again, Thus, it is taught to those to be tamed. Emptiness with elaboration, Sixteen are explained, and after summarizing, Again, it is explained as four, Those are considered (Mahayana). Because that is its nature, Therefore, the eye is empty by the eye. Likewise, ear, nose, and tongue, Body and mind should also be said. Not being permanent, not being destructible, Is the nature of what is apprehended. Whatever the six, eye, etc., are, That is considered to be inner emptiness. Because that is its nature, Therefore, form is empty by form. Likewise, sound, taste, smell, and dharma, Until touch should also be known. Form, etc., being unreal, Is considered to be outer emptiness. The nature of both being empty, Is inner and outer emptiness. The nature of all dharmas being empty, Is called emptiness by the wise. Emptiness, that also being empty, Is considered to be the nature of emptiness. Saying emptiness of emptiness, Considering emptiness of emptiness, For the sake of reversing the clinging of those who have the thought of emptiness as a real thing, It is taught. The sentient beings' container world, Because it pervades all without exception, Immeasurable, incomparable, without end, Because there is none, therefore the directions are great. These ten directions, The emptiness of the directions, Is said to be great emptiness, For the sake of reversing the clinging to greatness. That is because it is the supreme necessity, It is ultimate nirvana. That is what is emptied by that (emptiness), That is ultimate emptiness, For the sake of reversing the clinging to reality of those who have the thought of nirvana as a real thing, Clinging to reality. The emptiness of the ultimate, By ultimate wisdom

It is all said. Because it arises from conditions, all phenomena of the three realms are definitely said to be conditioned. What is the emptiness of that by that? That is said to be the emptiness of the conditioned. Whatever has the nature of arising, abiding, and impermanence, the absence of those is the unconditioned. What is the emptiness of that by that? The unconditioned is said to be emptiness. Whatever has no limit, that is said to be beyond limits. That is empty by its own nature, and it is said to be the emptiness of being beyond limits. The beginning, the first, and the last, because of the absence of those, the cycle of existence is said to be without beginning or end. Because it is free from going and coming, like a dream, this existence is empty by that. That is the beginning and the end, the absence of emptiness, so it is said. It is definitely said in the scriptures. Abandoning, called scattering, is definitely said to be letting go. That abandoning is without abandoning, whoever has not let go of anything, the one without abandoning, by that nature, what is the emptiness of that nature? Therefore, there is no abandoning in that, it is definitely said to be emptiness. Disciples, solitary realizers, bodhisattvas, and tathagatas, the buddhas, the nature of the conditioned and so on, why is it not done, therefore, the nature of the conditioned and so on, in its own nature, it is said. What is the emptiness of that nature by that? That is the emptiness of self-nature. The eighteen realms and the six contacts, the six feelings that arise from them, phenomena that are with form and without form, likewise conditioned and unconditioned phenomena, whatever those are, because they are separate by that, all phenomena are emptiness. Phenomena such as form are without substance, that is the emptiness of self-characteristics. Form is the characteristic of being able to be shown, feeling is the characteristic of experiencing, thought is the characteristic of holding onto signs, formation is the characteristic of manifestly forming, object is the characteristic of individually knowing, consciousness is its own characteristic. The characteristic of the aggregates is suffering, the characteristic of the realms is the desire to harm, what becomes the door of birth is the source of birth, the buddhas say the source of birth. Whatever is dependent arising, it has the nature of the assembly of conditions. Giving is the perfection of giving, ethics is the characteristic of being without torment, patience is the characteristic of being without anger, diligence is without fault, meditation is the characteristic of gathering, wisdom is the characteristic of being without attachment, the other shore.
