Cherishing, guarding, concealing, completely upholding, clothes, food, bedding, medicine for illness, giving utensils, giving the saying "good," guarding like a master, guarding virtuous roots, praising, concealing the unpleasant, this is also completely upholding the holy Dharma. Noble son, furthermore, having faith in emptiness, trusting in the signless, having no doubt in the wishless, being certain in the non-manifest activity, this is also completely upholding the holy Dharma. Noble son, furthermore, diligently engaging in non-contention, and stopping non-dharmic disputes in accordance with the Dharma, this is also completely upholding the holy Dharma. Noble son, furthermore, having a continuum without hatred, gathering sentient beings, having the wisdom to be completely liberated, giving Dharma to others with a mind free from defilement, this is also completely upholding the holy Dharma. Noble son, furthermore, abandoning body and life, guarding and concealing these sutras, dwelling in solitary places for practice, this is also completely upholding the holy Dharma. Noble son, furthermore, whether it arises from the cause of listening to the Dharma or from the cause of teaching the Dharma, even if it is just taking one step, even if it is just exhaling or inhaling one breath, this is also completely upholding the holy Dharma. Noble son, furthermore, not completely upholding all dharmas, not accepting, this is also called completely upholding the holy Dharma. Again, in that very sutra, it is said: Noble son, alas! This mind is very sensitive to objects, preventing it, guarding it, making it focused, taming and pacifying it, nearly pacifying it, subduing it, this is completely upholding the holy Dharma. Also in the Sutra of Engaging in the Certain and Uncertain Mudras, it says: Manjushri, in order to cut off the gains and respect of the solitary Buddhas who are as numerous as the dust particles in all the realms of the ten directions, generating a mind of stinginess towards gains and respect, in all directions and corners, towards their fame, sound, and verses,

Having proclaimed without interruption, another son or daughter of good family, in order to cut off the gains and respect of a Bodhisattva who believes in the Great Vehicle, generates a mind of stinginess towards gains and respect, and proclaims words that should not be praised, this will create even greater immeasurable sins. Manjushri, if someone, in order to uphold the holy Dharma, with a joyful mind, gives even a drop of water to a Bodhisattva who believes in the Great Vehicle, by that virtuous act, they will experience countless Chakravartin kingships. What need is there to mention believing in reading and reciting Bodhisattvas? The Sutra of the Seal of the Tathagata's Wisdom also says: "Those who seek knowledge and are jealous, Those with thorns and those who show pretense, Those who only speak and have low conduct, Cannot protect the Sugata's Bodhi. Those who love remote hermitages, Have conduct and can endure the profound, Not just speaking words like a sword, Far from good friends and happiness, This is the one who protects the decline of Bodhi. Far from the assembly and greatly delighting in peace, Like a mountain deer, fearful and without dwelling, Like wind in the sky, without attachment to gains, Such a one is the holder of the Buddha's Dharma. Not caring for the body, nor seeking life, What need to mention joy for relatives in the Bardo, Diligently striving, without self, and not grasping at anything, This is the vessel of Bodhi in the future. In the future, this is the source of sentient beings, Saying 'I have practiced for the sake of Bodhi,' Those who fabricate and adorn with their minds, With attachment, they cannot protect the Dharma." The Sutra of the Aspect of Truth also says: Shariputra, furthermore, Bodhisattvas seek the Dharma with reverence, uphold the Dharma with reverence, and give the Dharma with reverence. Shariputra, how should a Bodhisattva seek the Dharma with reverence? Shariputra, here, a Bodhisattva, desiring the Dharma, respects the Khenpo and Acharya, and there is no jewel in the world that they are unwilling to give up. There is no service to the body that they do not perform.
