It should be combined with the perfection of generosity. Because it is rightly seen that doing so will be in accordance with the teachings of the Tathagata. Son of good family, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, having rightly seen these twelve benefits of virtue, should be combined with the perfection of generosity. And this generosity should be completely dedicated to the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Thus it is said. Also in the Sutra of the Adornment of the Buddha Land of Manjushri: Shariputra, these four are the benefits of a Bodhisattva completely abandoning jealousy and stinginess. What are the four? That is, this person's mind of giving will not be forgotten; in times of famine, he will become a benefactor; when beggars approach, this person's house will not be obscured; when giving or receiving, this person will not be jealous of anything. Shariputra, these four are the benefits of a Bodhisattva completely abandoning jealousy and stinginess. Thus it is said. Also in the Sutra of the Discrimination of Actions: When food is given, what ten dharmas will increase? Giving food will make one beautiful, strong, happy, confident, long-lived and live long, increase food and drink, be of noble birth, have great wealth, be reborn in the heavens, and quickly be liberated from suffering. The essence of the nectar of the ocean of the Buddha's teachings. This is the great medicine for healing the diseases of transgressions and afflictions.
