Also, not accepting things on the road, but accepting what is found in or near a village, this is the great merit of gradual begging. If asked, what is prohibited, while the practice of the charnel ground dweller is truly accepted? It is said, in order to prohibit the monastic garden, the practice of the charnel ground dweller is truly accepted. There are three types of charnel ground dwellers: small, medium, and large. What is a small charnel ground dweller? It is one who dwells in a place that was formerly a charnel ground but is no longer a charnel ground. This is a small charnel ground dweller. What is a medium charnel ground dweller? It is one who dwells in a place where few corpses are transported. This is a medium charnel ground dweller. What is a large charnel ground dweller? It is one who dwells in a large charnel ground. This is a large charnel ground dweller. For example, like the story of the realization of the young monk. In the island of Simhala, after sixty years of dwelling in a charnel ground, it was said, "This monk is a charnel ground dweller," and it was known. After sixty years had passed, in that great charnel ground, many great Yakshas who steal radiance gathered, and that monk also entered the charnel ground. In that charnel ground, the Yaksha who constantly dwells in the charnel ground, in the form of a human, sat in the middle of the road in front of the monk and said, "Monk, where are you going?" He said, "I am going alone to the charnel ground." He said, "Monk, do not go!" He said, "I am going without being eaten by demons." He said, "Monk, do not go! In that charnel ground, many great beings have gathered, and they will cause various harms to the monk." He said, "I must go no matter what." He said, "Do you not know who I am?" He replied, "I do not know." He said, "I am the Yaksha who constantly dwells in the charnel ground. If you do not return, I will say to the people of this city, 'This young man has dwelt in the charnel ground for sixty years, and none of you knew.'" He said, "Wicked Yaksha, do not speak to the people! I will not turn back," said the elder, who was sixty years old, not disturbing the practice and desiring to continue.
