Having become the cause, not staying for long, for the sake of mere blameworthy food, they generate many non-merits. Those who rely on the Dharma of the pretas, universally enjoy, are poor, narrow-minded, possess stinginess, and nourish themselves. They claim to be Bodhisattvas by the name of Bodhisattvas, while they themselves have broken their vows, possess sinful desires, and are constantly engaged in sinful deeds. They praise the Buddha, praise the wisdom of the Buddha, and praise Bodhisattvas with perfect intentions, and also praise others, in order to obtain food and clothing. They practice love. Look at how disgusting those acts of love become. When they should roar the lion's roar and do the deeds of a lion, they make the sound of a fox and do the deeds of a fox. They praise the complete giving away of all possessions, but do not completely give away the fleeting pleasures of the world. Overwhelmed by stinginess, stained by the dirt of possessions, and having put giving aside, they praise beneficial things, commit many faults of harmful intent, hatred, and anger, and yet proclaim the virtues of patience, single-mindedly harboring harmful intent. They praise the four objects of gathering, but do not gather beings with generosity, kind speech, beneficial action, or consistent purpose. Those people become mere verbal entities. Therefore, it is said that it is impossible for Bodhisattvas to truly take up the qualities of diligence and emulate related actions. Also, in the Sutra of the Ocean of Intelligence, it says: Ocean of Intelligence, these four dharmas become obstacles to the Mahayana. What are the four? Being jealous of the gains of others, slandering those who teach the Dharma, acting hypocritically with an arrogant mind due to attachment to gains and respect, and making the mind unstable with deception. Ocean of Intelligence.
