Just as a lotus pond is completely dried up, and a precious stupa is broken and damaged, in the future the teachings will decline. In the time of the future, the sacred Dharma will be completely destroyed, it will be an extremely unbearable time. Those monks who are not disciplined, they are the ones who destroy my teachings. Those who delight in relying on this behavior, where will they have a good destination now? After dying from here, they will go to the realm of the pretas, the animal realm, and the hells of sentient beings. For countless hundreds of years, they will experience endless suffering, and endure extremely terrible torment. Even if they obtain a human body, they will always be full of pain and sorrow. Those who always rely on sinful behavior will be reborn as blind, deaf, or lame. White spots will always appear on their bodies. They will be frightened when they see terrifying forms. If someone practices disgusting behavior, no one will trust him. No one will believe his words, and he will always be blamed. They will be tormented by diseases and hundreds of sufferings. They will be beaten by weapons, wood, and clubs. They will be completely tormented by the fear of hunger and thirst. Or they will always be greatly despised. Having heard of endless suffering, those who are determined should abandon sinful behavior and always rely on virtuous behavior. From now on, do not regret it. Those who love the Buddha, the noble Sangha, and the Dharma of learning and practice, should abandon relatives, wealth, and fame. They should always strive diligently. Know that this conditioned phenomenon is like an illusion, and will be destroyed, like a dream, and will soon be separated from all that is pleasant, and know that there is nothing permanent here. Always strive and exert effort to reach the other shore, the grounds, and the powers. Until you have attained supreme enlightenment, never abandon diligence. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by Kashyapa also, I renounced the kingdom of a universal monarch and went forth, abandoning fine Kashi cloths, Dugula wool, Kautamba silk, and clothes with goose patterns, and wore robes because I loved the noble lineage.

The clothes of the earth are all worn on the body. O Light, I took the bad silk clothes from you, and I gave you the Shana cloth, all of which was because of my love for you, not because of attachment, nor for the sake of adorning the body. O Light, some foolish people do not follow your and my example, and are overwhelmed by greed and desire, making Dharma robes, etc., making bowls, etc., making worldly clutter, etc., making conch shells, gold, gems, grains, etc., cattle, sheep, birds, pigs, donkeys, horses, plows, and vehicles for hauling goods are placed nearby. Because they practice the affairs of householders, O Light, this makes them different from householders, but for those foolish renunciates, there is no difference whatsoever. O Light, householders appear different because those who are not practitioners claim to be practitioners, those who are not celibate claim to be celibate, wear robes but do many things, adorn themselves in various ways, and are greedy for food and clothing. When householders see them wearing robes, they will generate respect, and offer them robes and food, speak respectfully, bow and rise. O Light, this is the Dharma that distinguishes householders, but renunciates do not have it. Why is that? Because they do not strive to accept, nor do they abandon anything. O Light, at that time, most of the monks will have many bowls, robes, utensils, and wealth, and they will cherish these things, respect them, draw pictures and make offerings to them. Why is that? Because they will give and give back from time to time, and they will fully accept them as if they were work. Those monks who possess discipline, possess virtuous qualities, and are diligent in eradicating all defilements, are like having their heads and clothes on fire.

English

Those who are diligent, do little trivial work, focus on their own goals, and completely avoid associating with others, no one will visit, befriend, or respect them at that time. Why is that? Because householders, who are by nature attached and prioritize this life over the next, think like this: If those monks do not harm us, why should I befriend them? Why should I prostrate? Why should I jump? Why should I respect them? That's what they think. Otherwise, those who cultivate virtuous roots, have perfect past connections, possess discipline, and have virtuous qualities will befriend them. Only a few will befriend and respect them. Light Guardian, such conduct in accordance with the Dharma will please two kinds of people: those who see the truth and view samsara as terrifying, and those who are diligent in yogic practice and desire to attain the fruit, relying on karmic results, striving for the Dharma, and desiring the Dharma. Light Guardian, those who are not diligent, view non-Dharma as Dharma, contradict karmic results, do not see the faults of the next life as terrifying, prioritize this life, and do not prioritize the next life should all be condemned. Light Guardian, I will not open this Dharma to those foolish ones who do not even generate a single moment of mind with liberation. If they hear this Dharma and realize that they have fallen from practice, they will want to slander it, saying: These are not the words of the Buddha, these are self-fabricated, or they have been altered by demons. They will say this and cause many people to develop wrong views. Those people will destroy themselves and destroy others. They will make themselves afflicted and make others afflicted. Therefore, those who are not foolish have not entered the Dharma for the benefit of themselves and others, so said the Blessed One.
