Also, in the Sutra, it is said: Because of having little desire for things that can be enjoyed, speaking in words, therefore it is called the Lion's Roar. Also, in the Sutra of Teaching Inexhaustible Intelligence, it is said: What is right livelihood? It is not abandoning the noble lineage, not abandoning the qualities of learning, not being hypocritical, not being flattering, not being deceitful, being easily satisfied, being easily nourished, having beautiful conduct and discipline, not being jealous of others' gains, being content with one's own gains, being without fault, and being a livelihood approved by the noble ones. This is called right livelihood. Also, in the Yogacara-bhumi of Bodhisattvas, it is said: A Bodhisattva abiding in the precepts of discipline is one who does not boast of virtuous deeds, confesses sins, has few desires and is content, endures suffering, has a nature of being completely without torment, is not arrogant, is not unstable, has extremely peaceful conduct, and abandons all dharmas that engage in wrong livelihood, such as feigning discipline. That which causes the doctrine to decline is attachment to gain and honor. Also, in the Sutra of the Buddha's Treasury, it is said: Shariputra, even so, the Blessed One Kashyapa also prophesied that the teachings of the Tathagata Shakyamuni would decline especially because of attachment to gain and honor. Shariputra, in this way, this Dharma and Vinaya will quickly decline due to gain and honor. Shariputra, for example, a poor person finds a great treasure and experiences happiness and joy from that treasure. Shariputra, similarly, in the future, monks will rely on householders, flatter them, and honor them. Shariputra, those householders will invite those monks to worldly affairs with worldly affairs, just as a poor person is attached to treasure. Those who have not seen merit, in order to make themselves happy with worldly affairs, will gradually

It will become like that. In this way, those monks will also be completely immersed in the hustle and bustle of the world. Enslaved by the hustle and bustle of the world, they will not know contentment and will crave immediate gains. They will presumptuously proclaim themselves to be Arhats in order to be known by householders. If they pursue fame and gain in this way, they will abandon the Bodhi of the Buddha. It is also said in the "Glorious Sutra": "A monk who relies on gain and respect will generate ninety-nine kotis of afflictions, and they will obtain the result of the Avici Hell because of this." It is also said in the "Sutra of Encouraging Excellent Intentions": "Then, O Blessed One, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya asked the Blessed One, saying: 'O Blessed One, how should a Bodhisattva see the faults of gain and respect? What are the faults of gain and respect? What should a Bodhisattva rely on in order to rejoice in few desires and not be harmed at all?' The Buddha told the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya: 'Maitreya, a Bodhisattva should observe that gain and respect are the cause of generating desire. One should observe that gain and respect are the cause of destroying mindfulness. One should observe that gain and respect are the cause of generating pride and flattery due to obtaining and not obtaining. One should observe that gain and respect are the cause of generating ignorance. One should observe that gain and respect are the cause of generating stinginess and attachment to the family due to accomplishing one's own benefit. One should observe that gain and respect are the cause of acting deceitfully. One should observe that gain and respect are the cause of completely abandoning the four noble lineages and generating shamelessness and lack of embarrassment. One should observe that gain and respect are not allowed by all the Buddhas. One should observe that gain and respect are the cause of generating arrogance, pride, and conceit. One should observe that gain and respect are the cause of despising the lamas. One should observe that gain and respect belong to the retinue of Mara. One should observe that gain and respect are the root of complete carelessness. One should observe that gain and respect are the cause of stealing the roots of virtue.'
