For those who do not fear such unholy and possessed of unholy Dharma, what use are the teachings of emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, and aimlessness? Regarding pure livelihood, it is also said in the Vinaya: "Here, some are hypocritical, flattering, evasive, measuring by gain, seeking gain by gain, giving wood, giving milk, giving leaves, giving flowers, giving fruits, giving outer garments, giving salt, giving bathing items, giving toothpicks, giving suitable water, pleasing others, fully nourishing, examining goods, examining livestock, limb medicine, astrology, going as messengers, going as servants, sending by speculation, base work, lending and taking interest, giving or giving in return, or living by any other livelihood that the Buddha has condemned." In the Kashyapaparipṛcchā Sūtra, it is also said: "Kashyapa, what is a śramaṇa like a caṇḍāla? Kashyapa, for example, a caṇḍāla always dwells in the charnel ground, hoping for the dead, looking at beings with uncompassionate eyes, and rejoicing in the dead. Kashyapa, similarly, a śramaṇa like a caṇḍāla always harasses the homes of friends and the homes that give alms, and from there lives near gain and honor, and does not allow those householders to properly accept the Dharma or the Vinaya, and becomes close for the sake of gain, but not for the sake of the Dharma, and has no friendly mind and always hopes for gain. Kashyapa, this is called a śramaṇa like a caṇḍāla. Kashyapa, for example, a caṇḍāla should always be completely abandoned by merchants, householders, ministers, local kings, Brahmins, royalty, townspeople, and villagers, and once a caṇḍāla is recognized, they should be completely abandoned even from afar. Kashyapa, similarly, a śramaṇa like a caṇḍāla should also be abandoned by bhikṣuṇīs, female lay followers, and male lay followers.

Those who possess morality and virtues should completely abandon (evil deeds), just like a Chandala (outcaste) renunciate who practices all sinful dharmas. Knowing that their morality is corrupted, one should completely abandon them from afar. O Shraddha, for example, the things wiped by a Chandala, or their clothes, or anything they have used, all these things are not touched or used by virtuous people. O Shraddha, similarly, the begging bowl, or Dharma robes, or anything used by a Chandala-like renunciate, all these are sought through improper livelihoods, sought through slandering body and mind. Therefore, those who possess morality and virtues do not touch or use them. O Shraddha, for example, a Chandala holds a wiping cloth and goes to other people's houses in a shrinking manner. O Shraddha, similarly, a Chandala-like renunciate also prostrates to the Tathagata's stupa in a shrinking manner. He enters the Sangha in a shrinking manner. He enters monasteries, dwellings, and other people's houses in a shrinking manner. He walks, sits, and lies down in a shrinking manner. O Shraddha, in this way, by shrinking, all the places of activity of those who hide sins are thoroughly examined for what is improper. O Shraddha, for example, the mind of a Chandala does not abide in the birth of a happy realm. Why is that? It is because he is at fault due to his own actions. O Shraddha, similarly, the mind of a Chandala-like renunciate does not abide for the sake of going to a happy realm, and his

will become prosperous. Those will become prosperous for the sake of treating my body and disciples as teachers, as attendants, as offerings, and as remembrances. There, my disciples, who are great in magical powers and great in majesty, will also gather in great numbers. Ananda, there, skilled householders, great in wisdom, clear, disciplined, fearless, learned, and those who have accumulated much learning, will also appear prosperously. Ananda, also in that prosperous royal palace, those householders who are about to die will, immediately after dying, be reborn in the bodies of the gods of Tushita. Those who are ordained and are about to die will mostly go to bad destinies. Why is that? Because they do not abide in reducing possessions, nor do they abide in discipline. Ananda, in the prosperous royal palace, the sacred Dharma will remain. Those Brahmins and householders will think, "The sacred Dharma of the Bhagavan Shakyamuni will decline." Why is that? Like this, Ananda, at that time many monks will appear, who are lazy, accumulate much, go ahead to welcome those who have declined from renunciation, abandon diligence in secluded places, mix with the four assemblies, behave improperly, have broken vows, behave licentiously with Brahmins and householders, are unconventional, do not respect each other, and are fond of relying on flowers or food or arrangements or giving or returning gifts, and are not restrained. They will engage in wives and children. Seeing and hearing those things, they will think that the sacred Dharma of the Bhagavan Shakyamuni has declined, and therefore they will have great fear, dread, and sorrow. Thus spoke the Blessed One. In the Sutra Requested by Kashyapa, it also says: Kashyapa, what is a renunciate like a thief? Kashyapa, it is like this, for example, a person with a deceitful nature, always greedy, overcome by the power of attachment, not considering his own gains to be sufficient, hoping for the wealth of others, violent, holding sticks and weapons and hostile things, without shame,
