The term "accumulation" is a condensed meaning, here it is a term for accomplishing excellent things. "Accumulation" and "wealth" have the same meaning. Whoever accumulates all wealth, that is their accumulation. There are two types of accumulation: conditioned accumulation and unconditioned accumulation. Among them, the Shravakas are in the category of conditioned accumulation, and the Tathagatas are in the category of unconditioned accumulation. There are also two types of Sangha: conditioned Sangha and unconditioned Sangha. Among them, the conditioned Sangha refers to the Shravaka Sangha. Since the Shravaka Sangha has no accumulation, how could they have inferior items such as slaves, and hold storehouses and granaries? Because it is for the sake of the future, they do not accumulate even salt and sesame seeds. If someone says that the Bhagavan allows us to hold slaves, etc., then their tongues may become dull. These Shravakas are in the form of non-accumulation, they fully understand food. Those who have no attachment to food are the ones who fully understand food, and they are difficult to trace on the path. They quickly approach Buddhahood. The Tathagata said that their movements are difficult to trace. It is also said that even if the conditioned Sangha has no accumulation, how could there be unconditioned Sangha? The unconditioned Sangha is the Tathagata, how could the Tathagata have secret Dharma? Whatever is secret is accumulation. That which has no trace is the immovable bliss, showing the meaning of liberation. Also in the same sutra, it is said, "Noble son, if the Sangha wisely practices the eight great foundations, if there are monks abiding in them who possess discipline, they are like the Tinduka trees in the Karaka forest, even if they are not seen, even if they possess discipline, the wise Upasaka

Therefore, do not prostrate to them, nor make them places of offering. If you wish to prostrate to them, would you take the eight great root downfalls? If asked whether you would take them, answer that you would not, and then prostrate. Furthermore, in the same sutra, it says, "What is meant by 'not letters' refers to self-made letters that arise from not knowing enough, not being frugal with resources, being greedy, hypocritical, and flattering, as well as various sutras that are not spoken by the Buddha. The Blessed One, with compassion for us, in order to prevent his disciples from falling into affliction during times of famine, spoke of the basis of precepts regarding giving servants and various foods, such as, 'I allow you to keep servants, as well as gold and silver, cattle and buffalo, to collect grains, to engage in buying and selling, and to cultivate fields,' and so on. These are called letters, but such sutras and vinaya are not reliable. Therefore, those who recite letters are also not reliable. So, monks, your reliance is on meaning." The Sutra of Great Compassion also says, "Having abandoned conches, gold, jewels, and many riches, having abandoned family and relatives and gone forth, having gone forth into the Buddha's teachings, they engage in sinful deeds to a great extent. They regard wealth and grain as the essence, and are attached to young donkeys, carts, and so on. Those who have no intention to learn, why do they shave their heads?" Again, in the same sutra, it says, "Relying on respect and gain, those who seek the benefits of knowledge build temples and stupas, lust after and indulge in married women. They rely on objects, and are deeply attached to the thirst for desire, dwelling in the realm of Mara, doing the work of householders." The Sutra of the Differentiation of Actions also says, "So, what is the cause by which, having truly taken up these ten paths of non-virtuous actions, external objects appear to decline? The ripening of killing causes radiance to diminish."

Furthermore, the ripening of taking what is not given will cause hail, butterflies, and crops, i.e., things with worms, to arise. The ripening of sexual misconduct out of desire will cause hail, dust, chaff, unfavorable winds, and rain to arise. The ripening of lying will cause bad breath to arise. The ripening of divisive speech will cause dense grass and thick forests to arise. The ripening of harsh speech will cause gravel, pebbles, and things that are unpleasant to touch and rough to arise. The ripening of idle talk will cause high and low places, thorns, ravines, cliffs, saline soil, and filthy places to spread. The ripening of covetousness will cause the crops to have small fruits. The ripening of harmful intent will cause the crops to be fruitless. The ripening of wrong view will cause the crops to have fruits of hail and heat. It is said that by fully taking up these ten paths of non-virtuous actions as causes, external objects will visibly decline. In the sutra of the Buddha's words, it is also said: Furthermore, at that time, those monks will speak of self, will speak of sentient beings, will speak of life, will speak of persons, will speak of annihilation, will speak of permanence, will falsely claim to practice celibacy when they do not, will seek harm and injury to others, will have broken vows, will steal with flags, and they will delight in the sounds of lutes, clay drums, and various kinds of drums, and will not turn away from watching dances and dancers, will not turn away from desiring gain and holding salt and money, and likewise will not turn away from holding the property of fields, will not turn away from holding the property of trade, will not turn away from holding the property of homes, will not turn away from holding raw grain, and likewise will not turn away from holding domestic fowl, pigs, donkeys, and sheep, will not turn away from plows and plowshares, and from doing the work of carts.
