How is the indestructible body accomplished? By what cause is such a body accomplished? The Blessed One said: "My body like this is accomplished by the cause of merit from protecting the sacred Dharma. Son of good family, a layperson who protects the sacred Dharma should not take the five bases of training. Also, the discipline of a layperson should not be practiced. In order to protect the monks who possess morality, rituals, and qualities, one should hold bows and arrows, swords, and short spears with blades in their hands." They asked: "Among the monks, those who do not reside with protectors but spread out a mat alone under a tree, what are they called? Those are called monks. Those who reside with protectors, what are they called? Those are called householders with shaved heads." The Blessed One said: "Son of good family, do not say 'householders with shaved heads' like that. This is because some monks sit on a mat of straw, and after eating food, they sit alone in one direction without speaking, meditating and also observing the nature of the body. To the beings who come, they do not proclaim the words of generosity, the words of morality, the words of merit, the words of the ripening of merit, contentment, and the virtues of fasting, nor do they roar the lion's roar. They also do not maintain a retinue like a lion. That monk who does not teach in order to punish the marked evil ones has not entered the Dharma for the benefit of all beings, nor has he entered for his own benefit, because his afflictions are weak, and he is merely endowed with morality and pure conduct. A monk endowed with morality, another monk with good qualities sits on a mat of straw in another place and roars the lion's roar, and for the benefit and happiness of all beings, he teaches the nine divisions of scripture: Sutra, Geya, Vyakarna, Gatha, Udana, Itivrttaka, Jataka, Vaipulya, and Adbhutadharma. In this Sutra, monks, servants, maids, cattle, and buffaloes

It is said that punishing those who hold impure things is in accordance with our circumstances. It also appears in a large sutra that the Blessed One had a certain king punish monks who held impure things, and had those who broke their vows wear lay clothes. When the lion's roar was proclaimed in this way, those who broke their vows did not cause confusion. Even if they were put to death, I would say that the monk was virtuous, benefiting himself and benefiting others. Therefore, in order to protect the king, ministers, and lay practitioners, I also allow the protection of monks, and also allow the punishment of householders with shaved heads. Those who break their vows are called householders with shaved heads, and this is not a respectful term for those who keep their vows. Son of good family, in the past, countless eons ago, in this city of Kushinagar, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, named Joyful Birth, appeared in the world. At that time, this world became as vast as Sukhavati, and at that time, sentient beings were like the bodhisattvas of Sukhavati, without any weakness. Then, that Tathagata resided for countless millions of years, and then passed into nirvana in this city and in this place. Then, his teachings lasted for countless millions of years. When forty years remained of the teachings, at the time when the Dharma was declining, there was a monk named Buddha-protected, who had many attendants, roared like a lion, and taught the Dharma of the nine divisions of scripture. He taught the Dharma of abandoning impure things such as slaves, servants, cattle, and buffalo, and when those who broke their vows with hateful minds heard this, they developed the intention to kill him. Those who broke their vows gathered together, holding various weapons in their hands, and rushed towards that monk. At that time, I also became a king named Bestowing Governance, and that king (thought)

Having heard this, in order to protect the sacred Dharma, he went to that monk and waged war with them. Then, that Dharma speaker could not withstand them. That king's body was wounded by swords, short spears, single-edged knives, vajras, and arrows, and there was not a single place as small as a mustard seed that was not pierced. Then, that monk, seeing that the king had become like that, said, "Well done! Protecting the sacred Dharma should be done like that. You will become fortunate to have immeasurable Dharma." Then, that king, having heard the words of that monk, after dying, was born in the Buddha-field of Akshobhya Tathagata. There, all the sentient beings who rejoiced, and all those who waged war, also attained enlightenment. In the Buddha-field called Manifest Joy, the Buddha-field of Akshobhya Tathagata, there also appeared one called the Form of Akshobhya Tathagata. The monk Buddha-given also died after the king died, and in the teachings of Akshobhya Tathagata, he became the best of the Shravakas. That king also became the second Shravaka. Therefore, when the sacred Dharma declines, the sacred Dharma should be promoted. At that time, the one who became the strongman was me. That monk was Buddha Light Protector, and he has completely passed into Nirvana. Therefore, the fruit of protecting the sacred Dharma is immeasurable. Because the fruit is completely pure, I have also become like a peacock adorned with many patterned feathers, and I have attained the indestructible body and the Dharmakaya. The clansmen of the great Light Protector requested, saying that the Tathagata has an eternal body, like letters carved in stone. The Buddha taught: Son of the lineage, therefore, those who wish to protect the sacred Dharma, whether it be a monk, a nun, a upasaka, or an upasika, should protect it wherever they are. The fruit of an upasaka protecting the sacred Dharma is vast. Son of the lineage, therefore, the monks should walk with the upasakas holding weapons in front of them.
