At that time, if a great king experiences various kinds of joy and happiness, what do you think, great king? Can that person, standing before you, experience joy and play, or abide in various kinds of joy and happiness? The king replied: Venerable Bhagavan, no, even if that person were present before me, it would be of no avail, let alone experiencing joy and play. The Bhagavan said: Great king, similarly, if someone seizes people as slaves and servants, even from the foundation of a house or a field, down to the sheep, then I am not his teacher, nor is he my disciple. He is also harmful to all the Buddhas who have passed away in the three times. For in such places dedicated to those who abide by the Dharma, it is not appropriate to abide in accordance with the Dharma. Whether it be a Kshatriya, a Brahmin, a Vaishya, or a Shudra, anyone who is involved with and benefits a sinful monk, and who does not give aid from the Kshatriya to the Shudra, is a great cause of harm to all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who have passed away in the three times. Even if many gifts have been given, that person, at the time of death, will be reborn in the great hell of Avici. Great king, therefore, in order to truly benefit yourself, do not stand on the side associated with holding sinful monks. Why? Because he has come to harm all gods and humans, to be unhelpful, to cause one to fall into wrong paths, and to cut off the lineage of the Three Jewels. Great king, whether it be a Kshatriya, a Brahmin, a Vaishya, or a Shudra, anyone who truly stands on the side of the monks who abide by the Dharma, and not on the side of the sinful monks, even if he has not given gifts, nevertheless, that is the cause of the Dharma's side.

For this reason, he is the supreme benefactor of all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who have gone to the three times. In order to protect the sacred Dharma, he should be regarded as the supreme holder of the sacred Dharma. After death, he will be born in a pure Buddha-field, and soon after, he will attain the unsurpassed and perfect enlightenment. Great King, therefore, it is fitting that you, a member of the royal family, hold the Dharma in your hands, and I entrust all the teachings to you. During the last five hundred years of the Dharma's decline, you should truly uphold my Dharma, and by this cause, my Dharma and the lineage of the Three Jewels will abide for a long time, benefiting and bringing happiness to gods and humans. Again, in that very Sutra Pitaka, it says: Then, the Naga King, the son of the ocean, Lotus Face, said this: O Bhagavan, by what karma was I born into the Naga race? My form is ugly, and whatever my body touches burns. I always throw away my shoes and walk around naked. My father enjoys extremely excellent and complete blessings, like a Chakravartin king of the four continents. The Bhagavan said: O Lotus Face, long ago, thirty-one kalpas ago, there was a Tathagata, even a Buddha Bhagavan, named Crested One, who appeared in the world. At that time, there was a king named Flowerless, and that King Flowerless also offered to the Tathagata Crested One, as well as to the Sangha of Shravakas and Bodhisattvas, who had hundreds of thousands of attendants, all the necessities for three months, and constantly listened to the Dharma, aspiring to attain the unsurpassed and perfect enlightenment. That Bhagavan also built a temple equipped with all the necessary items. King Flowerless had a son named Accomplishing Affairs, who was very afraid of samsara, Bhagavan.

Having renounced in this place, he inherited and resided in his father's monastery. Then, the monk Serzhub (སྲིད་སྒྲུབ་), son of Metokdral (མེ་ཏོག་བྲལ་), became jealous of all the Shravaka monks of the Bhagavan who resided there, and of all the food, drink, and bedding they used. The Shravaka monks of the Bhagavan also left that place. He was extremely happy in his heart, thinking that he would not enjoy it himself, nor would he give it to others. From there, that monk, at the time of his death, was born into the great evil hells. He was punished in the great evil hells for many millions of years. Then, he died from there and was born into the realm of the pretas, where he suffered for many millions of years. Later, he also suffered in the hells and the realm of the pretas. The renunciate named Serzhub (སྲིད་སྒྲུབ་), with a heart full of fear of samsara, then died and was reborn. Do not think that the one who has suffered in the lower realms for so long is someone else; it is you who are bound by such karmic obscurations. From now on, for thirty-one kalpas, you will always be born in the three lower realms. Due to the remaining karmic obscurations, it is not someone else who is born here among the nagas, it is you who are experiencing such suffering. Wherever you die from here and are reborn in the hells, among animals, and in the realm of the pretas, you will always be tormented by suffering, this is certain. That naga son was extremely displeased, wept bitterly, prostrated at the feet of the Bhagavan, and said: Venerable Bhagavan, like a child, a drunkard, one who is unclear, and one who is not intelligent, I confess my faults one by one. I confess my faults one by one. Venerable Bhagavan, I am determined to uphold the precepts with my mind. I am a lay follower of the Tathagata, for as long as I live.
