If someone were to strike all sentient beings born in the three-thousand great thousand world system with sticks and swords, and plunder all their possessions, it would be less sinful than if any other son or daughter of good family were to generate a mind of contempt towards a Bodhisattva, generating anger, malice, slander, and a wrathful mind. This would generate immeasurably more sin. Manjushri, if any son or daughter of good family, with a mind of hatred, desires to harm sentient beings, and in worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, in each world and each continent, were to kill Arhats as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, and destroy stupas of precious jewels surrounded by precious platforms, with umbrellas, banners, and divine streamers erected, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, it would be less sinful than if any other son or daughter of good family were to impute falsehoods to the very Mahayana of a Bodhisattva who is devoted to the Mahayana, generating a mind of contempt, and for whatever reason, engages in anger, abuse, unpleasant speech, and disparagement. This would generate immeasurably more sin. Why is that? Because the Tathagata necessarily arises from Bodhisattvas, and that is entering for the sake of severing the lineage of the Buddhas. Whoever slanders a Bodhisattva has abandoned the Dharma. The Dharma is other, and the Bodhisattva who completely upholds the Dharma is not other, the Bodhisattva himself is the Dharma. Manjushri, if someone were to become angry and imprison all sentient beings of all the ten directions' world systems in dark prisons, it would be less sinful than if any son or daughter of good family were to become angry, turn their back on a Bodhisattva and sit down, saying, "I will not look at this wicked person." This would generate immeasurably more sin. Manjushri, if someone were to plunder all the possessions of all the sentient beings of Jambudvipa, it would be less sinful than if someone else were to do such and such to a Bodhisattva.

If one slanders those who are compliant, it will generate countless more evils. Explanation of the intent of giving advice. It is also said in the Sutra of the Essence of the Sun: Then, King Embodied Heart spoke to the Bhagavan as follows: Venerable Bhagavan, you are called an advisor. To what extent are you established as an advisor, Bhagavan? The Bhagavan replied: Great King, I allow two monks to be advisors. Which two? Those who are Arhats who meditate on the eight liberations, and those who are monks who are constantly entering the right path. Great King, I allow these two monks to engage in the work of advising. Thus spoke the Blessed One. It is also said in the Sutra Requested by Light Protector: Then, the venerable Light Protector spoke to the Bhagavan as follows: Bhagavan, what kind of monk can give advice? The Bhagavan replied: Light Protector, I allow two monks to give advice. Which two? Those monks who are completely pure, who fear the faults of the next world, rely on the maturation of karma, and possess shame and regret; and those who have exhausted their defilements and become Arhats. Light Protector, I allow these two non-regressing monks to give advice. Why is that? Light Protector, in this well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, there are those who have renounced from various backgrounds, who dwell in various yogas to abandon various mental inclinations. Some delight in dwelling on secluded forest bedding, some are alms-gatherers, some dwell on the outskirts of villages, some live completely pure lives, some diligently strive to hear much, some are Dharma speakers, some are Vinaya holders, some are Matrika holders, some enter villages, cities, towns, regions, and royal palaces to teach the Dharma. Because the mental conduct of other beings is difficult to guard. Light Protector, therefore, a monk who gives advice should not displease the minds of all the monastic community. Light Protector, for those monks who dwell on secluded forest bedding

Therefore, the attendant Bhikshu should not be assigned work. The attendant should protect those Bhikshus who reside in the monastery, should not disturb them at inappropriate times, and should not send them away at inappropriate times. Kashyapa, if a Bhikshu residing in the monastery is assigned to study work belonging to the Sangha, the attendant Bhikshu should do the work himself. Alternatively, assign another Bhikshu to do the work, and do not hinder the Bhikshu residing in the monastery. Kashyapa, for those Bhikshus who practice alms-begging, the attendant Bhikshu should distribute food. Kashyapa, for those Bhikshus who practice yoga, the attendant Bhikshu should provide suitable clothing, medicine for treating illnesses, and utensils. In the place where the Bhikshu who practices yoga resides, the attendant Bhikshu should not make loud or high-pitched noises, nor should he allow others to do so. The attendant Bhikshu should protect the Bhikshu who practices yoga and provide appropriate care. Food, pleasant items, and food and drink suitable for the residence of the yogi should be provided. For that Bhikshu, one should generate a very cherished thought, thinking, "This Bhikshu resides here to proclaim the teachings of the Tathagata, and I should provide him with all the necessary utensils in abundance." Kashyapa, for those Bhikshus who are diligent in learning, the attendant Bhikshu should say, "Please read! Please recite! Please chant! I am your attendant, and the more you learn, the more adorned the Sangha of Bhikshus will become. Please adorn it by speaking of the Vinaya! And please make your own wisdom reach its peak!" One should make them feel happy. Kashyapa, the attendant Bhikshu should not send them away at inappropriate times, nor should he assign them work. The attendant Bhikshu should protect those Bhikshus who are learned. Kashyapa, for those Bhikshus who speak the Dharma, the attendant Bhikshu
