Furthermore, initiating the diligence to completely satisfy all sentient beings, initiating the diligence to accomplish all the Buddha's teachings, initiating the diligence to perfect all marks and signs, and initiating the diligence to purify all Buddha-fields, these are the four. One gives charity inseparable from the four mindfulnesses. What are the four? They are: recollecting the mind of enlightenment, recollecting seeing the Buddha, recollecting great love and great compassion, and recollecting abandoning the afflictions of all sentient beings, these are the four. One gives charity with the three circles completely pure. What are the three? They are: with illusion-like and equality, one's own retinue is completely pure; with dream-like and similarity, the retinue of sentient beings is completely pure; and with no expectation of ripening results, the retinue of enlightenment is completely pure, these are the three. One gives charity that is completely pure through the complete purification of the four kinds of knowledge. What are the four? They are: the knowledge of giving is completely pure, the knowledge of satisfying the thoughts of sentient beings is completely pure, the knowledge of individually discerning illusory dharmas is completely pure, and the knowledge of individually discerning complete dedication is completely pure. Through these four, one gives charity that is completely pure. Son of good family, the Bodhisattva who possesses such qualities, his practice of the perfection of giving becomes extremely completely pure. Son of good family, this is the completely pure practice of the perfection of giving of a Bodhisattva. Thus it is said. Also, in the Ocean of Intelligence Sutra, it is said: "Bhagavan, in this practice of the perfection of giving of a Bodhisattva, the mind engages in giving away things that are not lacking, and the mind does not engage in giving away things that are lacking. Whatever sentient beings become happy with, one gives to them. One does not give to those sentient beings who do not make oneself happy. One makes distinctions between things, and one makes distinctions between sentient beings. Bhagavan, this is the giving and...

It is said that the iron hook of the powerful demon is the first. Also, in the Sutra Requested by Akashagarbha, it says: 'Son of good family, if you possess four qualities, the generosity of a Bodhisattva is equal to the sky. What are the four? They are: namely, entering into the purity of beings with self-purity; entering into the purity of generosity with the purity of beings; entering into the purity of dedication with the purity of generosity; and entering into the purity of enlightenment with the purity of dedication. Son of good family, if you possess these four qualities, the generosity of a Bodhisattva is equal to the sky.' Therefore, give that generosity through the gate of eight liberations. What are the eight? They are: namely, give that generosity with the purity of self-grasping; give that generosity with the purity of grasping at what belongs to me; give that generosity with the purity of cause; give that generosity with the purity of view; give that generosity with the purity of sign; give that generosity with the purity of difference; give that generosity with the purity of not expecting fruition; give that generosity with the purity of mind equal to the sky. Therefore, give that generosity through these eight gates of purity. Also, in the Ornament of the Sutras, it says: 'The seven attachments are the opposing factors of generosity, namely, attachment to enjoyment, attachment to stinginess, attachment to being content with just that, attachment to expecting a return, attachment to fruition, attachment to opposing factors because the latent tendencies of attachment to opposing factors have not been completely destroyed, and attachment to distraction. There are two types of distraction: distraction of attention is because of delighting in the lesser vehicle; distraction of conceptualization is because of conceptualizing the giver, the receiver, and the gift. Therefore, in order to be liberated from the seven attachments, the non-attachment of generosity is explained seven times.' Also, in the Jewel Cloud Sutra, it says: 'When a Bodhisattva gives generosity, he should completely abandon the faults of generosity, the stains of generosity, and the obstacles of generosity.'
