And, because they see beings who suffer by their very nature. What is giving without looking at the result? The Bodhisattva, after giving, does not expect to have perfect enjoyment in the future, or to have a perfect body, and does not hope for the maturation of the fruit of giving, because he sees all conditioned things as empty and meaningless, and regards the supreme Bodhi as beneficial. In these ten ways, the giving of Bodhisattvas becomes pure and very pure. Thus, Bodhisattvas, relying on these nine kinds of giving, perfect the perfection of giving, and thus attain the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by the Great Hermit Guang, it is also said: Then, the great hermit Guang, with his palms joined together, said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, you have declared the result corresponding to the all-knowing wisdom, benefiting and bringing happiness to all beings. Blessed One, if giving is given to both those who break the precepts and those who keep the precepts, then please do not conceal the result of giving. The Blessed One taught: Great Hermit, listen to the teaching on the result of giving. Great Hermit, whatever little is given at the beginning is called giving. Great Hermit, whoever is not afraid of the next world and does not discriminate against the recipients, whether they are those who keep the precepts or those who are evil and break the precepts, generates faith, opens their eyes, and gives with an equal mind to all sentient beings, Great Hermit, this person is the giver. Great Hermit, In addition, five kinds of giving must be perfected. What are the five? They are giving on time to guests, the sick, those who care for the sick, those who speak the Dharma, and those who go to other places. These are the five. There are also five others: giving Dharma, giving material things, giving shelter, giving lamps, and giving incense and garlands. The Great Hermit Guang asked: Blessed One, what is completely pure giving? The Blessed One taught: Great Hermit,

Tsalpa. Whoever generates faith, with a mind of love, focusing on all sentient beings, and respectfully gives alms, giving alms with a tamed mind, then all of that is completely pure. Giving alms dedicated to liberation is called completely pure. Furthermore, there are five ways of viewing giving as unsurpassed. What are the five? Giving to the Tathagata is unsurpassed. Giving to the Sangha is unsurpassed. Giving to the Dharma speaker is unsurpassed. Giving to the sick is unsurpassed. Giving to parents is unsurpassed. Furthermore, what becomes a great giving is: if a king who has lost the power of his kingdom is given alms, it is a great giving. Giving to a king who is tormented, as well as to the helpless and the sick, is a great giving. If a king is abandoned and suffers elsewhere, and is rescued from the brink of death, it is a great giving. Giving medicine to the sick is a great giving. Giving alms at the right time to the noble Sangha who are perfect in discipline brings great fruit. Giving to those who are absorbed in samadhi, as well as to those who possess perfect wisdom, perfect liberation, and perfect vision of the wisdom of liberation, is a great giving. Giving fearlessness to crows, owls, deer, and so on, who have gone to the animal realm, is a great giving. Fulfilling the wishes of someone who needs something or lacks something is a great giving. If a great sage gives in this way, it is completely pure and a great giving. Desiring these completely pure givings, one should cultivate completely pure giving in this way. If sentient beings are encouraged by others in this way, and generate faith and joy, and rejoice in this completely pure giving, then they are equally creators of merit and benefactors. Therefore, those who rejoice and those who encourage all become equally creators of merit, so it is said. The Verses of the Compendium of the Perfection of Wisdom.
