One should not give to beggars. Why is that? Because if one gives, they may only generate a little joy towards the Bodhisattva. However, that giving is a very great harm to them. Because of that, they become fat, careless, and engage in misconduct, and their bodies are destroyed, and they will be born in the lower realms. If it is a matter of joy and play, etc., and it is not something that causes one to go to the lower realms, nor does it turn into the root of non-virtue, etc., then for such joy and play, etc., one should give to beggars in order to make them happy. Because that thing also serves to gather and ripen. What kind of joy and play objects does a Bodhisattva not give to beggars, and what kind does he give? For example, a Bodhisattva does not give the teaching of secret methods of hunting wild animals. One should not perform evil sacrifices, great sacrifices where many living beings are gathered and killed, nor should one allow others to perform such sacrifices. One should not give the killing of livestock to the gods. One should not give away places where many living beings live, such as places where aquatic or terrestrial animals live, in order to harm those living beings. One should not give away traps and hunting devices, or the teaching of traps and hunting devices, because they are meant to harm living beings. One should not give away the enemies of enemies, because they are meant to be used for scolding, killing, binding, executing, or inflicting harm. In short, a Bodhisattva does not give to beggars any object of joy and play for sentient beings that causes harm or suffering to other sentient beings. Elephants, horses, chariots, palanquins, and vehicles, clothes and ornaments, food and drink, gifts, dances, songs, and the sounds of musical instruments.

And the trainings, dances, songs and musical instruments, incense and flower garlands, various perfumes, various utensils, gardens, houses and women used for enjoyment, and whatever various trainings there are in the places of crafts and works, and such joys, and whatever objects of play there are, are given to those who ask for them in order to make the Bodhisattva's mind happy. Even if a Bodhisattva has agreed to a sick person's request, he will not give food and drink that is not measured or harmful. He will not give food and drink that has been begged for to beings who are greedy by nature and are already full. He will not allow beings who are tormented by sorrow to be happy by killing themselves, or beating themselves, or drinking poison, or jumping off a cliff. A Bodhisattva does not give everything of his parents to all beggars, because the parents of a Bodhisattva are supreme like a lama, because they suckle, nourish and give birth, therefore, even if a Bodhisattva carries them on his head for a long time, he should not be tired. If it is necessary to shave hair and let blood, and to give himself to them both as a master, and to make them rule and depend on him, then how would a Bodhisattva think of giving to others? How could he give at all? Even if a Bodhisattva becomes the master of a king who has been crowned from the head, he will not take away the children and wives of others from those who are included in the beings of his own retinue and give them to others, but thinking, 'As I have become, may they also become the same,' he will give the whole village, or some part of the village, or the whole region, or some part of the region, to be enjoyed, and that is the end of giving. A Bodhisattva does not give his own children, wives, servants, maids, workers, those who live on leftovers, and those who are completely controlled, to those who want them without being properly informed, unwillingly, and unhappily. To be properly informed
