Therefore, one should abide in the four great gifts. What are the four? They are: giving pens, giving ink, giving books, and giving Dharma. Shariputra, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who belong to the ordained should abide in these four gifts. Shariputra, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who have attained the forbearance of non-arising Dharma should abide in the three kinds of giving. What are the three? They are: giving, great giving, and supreme giving. Among them, giving is completely giving away the kingdom. Great giving is completely giving away wives, sons, and daughters. Supreme giving is completely giving away head, hands, feet, eyes, skin, bones, and marrow. Shariputra, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who have attained the forbearance of non-arising Dharma should abide in these three complete givings. Thus it is said. In the Sutra of the Aspect of Truth, it is also said: What is giving? Shariputra, here, Bodhisattvas completely give away whatever they possess, that is, completely giving away hands, completely giving away feet, completely giving away hands and feet, completely giving away nose, completely giving away head, completely giving away limbs and body, completely giving away sons, completely giving away daughters, completely giving away wives, completely giving away life, completely giving away wealth, completely giving away happiness, completely giving away body, completely giving away things, completely giving away places, completely giving away jewels, completely giving away all possessions. Shariputra, when Bodhisattvas give in this way, they are approaching the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. What is knowing giving? It is giving at the right time what is in the alms bowl, and giving what is lawful. For example, completely giving clothes, food, bedding, medicine, and necessities to the monks and treating them with hospitality. Thus it is said. In the Sutra of Inexhaustible Wisdom, it is also said: Venerable Sharadvatiputra Bodh
