Being devoid of the means of virtuous qualities acquired through practice, engaging in improper conduct, being attached to likes and dislikes, being overcome by attachment and anger, praising oneself, disparaging others, being particularly attached to body and life, delighting in forms, delighting in sounds, delighting in smells, delighting in tastes, delighting in tactile sensations, delighting in speech, delighting in sleep, delighting in crowds, not knowing the time, not knowing moderation, associating with evil friends, being separated from virtuous friends, abandoning the objects of accumulation, and being separated from all aspects of enlightenment, therefore, it is difficult to approach, so it is said. Furthermore, the intention of prohibiting medical treatment for monks is explained. In the Root Treatise, it is also said: Shariputra, those monks who have broken their vows will engage in the activities of laypeople, they will make a living through the work of messengers, and they will also make a living through the practice of medicine. Shariputra, ordination in my teachings is for the purpose of making a living through the path of enlightenment of the Buddha, see how they treat the Tathagata as if he were an enemy. Shariputra, at that time, the Four Great Kings, Indra the lord of the gods, Brahma the lord of the Saha world, and other thousands of gods, upon seeing such a great change in the essence of the scriptures, will utter great lamentations. Shariputra, it is not appropriate for those who rely on me to provide services to laypeople. Why is that? Shariputra, my Shākyamuni's Shravaka disciples will not become attendants or servants of gods, nagas, yakshas, etc. Shariputra, furthermore, if foolish people respectfully serve laypeople, then the emptiness of the signless dharma that they rely on or abide in does not actually exist. Shariputra, at that time, the immoral monks will preach the Buddha's teachings to laypeople for a cup of wine. Shariputra, what do you think? Heavy on attachment, heavy on ignorance, fond of crowds, fond of talking, on the body

Those who are attached and whose behavior is completely impure, can they know, measure, believe in the Dharma of emptiness without an object of focus, or can they teach or attain the Dharma of a renunciate? This is not possible. In the Sutra of Protecting the Country, it is also said: One should become independent of worldly talk of distant benefits. One should turn away from the practice of trade, not be fond of medicine, not be fond of messengers, and not be one who possesses the end of the work of a messenger. In the Sutra Requested by Gya, it is also said: If one gives to a doctor out of fear of physical illness, that giving will also become completely impure. In the Sutra of the Holy Dharma of Mindfulness, it is also said: Two kinds of killing that include arrogance should be abandoned and not done. What are these two? They are medicine. When a monk practices medicine, he will not practice meditation and recitation. When he practices medicine, he will do other things and say other things. He will fix his mind on the sick and his mind will reach there. When he does that, desire will become strong. How will he, who is overcome by desire, cause various serious diseases to occur again? When he afflicts sentient beings, how will various kinds of gain and respect arise again? He will think: I should travel from village to village, from city to city, from rock to rock, and travel separately and correctly. Thinking in this way, he who is overcome by greed will become a defilement of the mind, but will not practice virtue. Furthermore, when practicing medicine, there will be great faults for those who are not monks but claim to be monks. When beings are overcome by diseases such as wind, he will quickly instruct the person near the pillow: Bring sesame oil! If there is none, squeeze sesame! Squeezing sesame is more serious than killing, and many insects will be killed. The bad renunciate who claims to be a renunciate also has this fault: In order to see the disease...

Cutting with a knife, not too fat, not dead, not tormented by disease, not killed by wild animals, do not say that a thin person is a mute, say it like that. Whoever is spoken to, and whoever is killed to speak to, will also be connected to killing. Those two with the same actions, sentient beings will go to the reviving hell. Therefore, do not perform healing with the faults of greed and harmful intent. A bad doctor, a bad practitioner, claiming to be a practitioner. A thief, a sinful person also has other faults, when the disease becomes severe, the collection of forest medicines, namely trees, shrubs, and vines, etc. In reality, they are occupied by sentient beings, dependent on, and filled with insects, for the sake of material reasons, they will be cut down or cut. When he digs, he will kill the creatures living on the land, those that depend on its roots, destroying their nests. When he cuts, he will kill the creatures inside, and also kill the creatures that depend on it. When performing healing, there is also this other fault. Like this, for those who love life and are attached to life, how can the mind that likes meditation and reading arise? For those who are attached to this, their mind will become very powerful. Like this, those with malicious thoughts and sinful nature will think of destroying this place. When the sentient beings of this place are destroyed, he will think: I will receive many offerings, items, food, beds, and bedding, and respect. Those who have not overcome desire will not think of virtuous dharmas. They will not become the nature of meditation and reading. They will not serve the lama. They will not meet virtuous friends. They will not become the nature of prostrating to the Buddha. Those who do evil, after the body dies, will fall into the evil realms, falling into the hells. He dies and transmigrates from there, and if he is born as a human because he has done the karma that will be suffered other times, then he will engage in the profession of a doctor.
