Even if unwilling to sit on the seat, one should seek out the monks, and when the eightfold path to enlightenment is taught, I should listen to these branches. Upon hearing that, I think my illness will be cured. Therefore, those foolish people who, desiring what is not Dharma, think to seek complete enlightenment are like wanting to see after gouging out one's eyes, or wanting to be at odds with many guests after losing all wealth, or wanting to walk on the road after cutting off one's legs. Great King, the enlightenment of those foolish people who desire such things is thought to be like that. Great King, if a person possesses twenty-five qualities, it should be known that they have fallen away from enlightenment. What are these twenty-five? Being stingy with dwellings, being stingy with families, being stingy with praise, being jealous, lacking faith, not knowing shame, being shameless, having evil thoughts, having deceitful thoughts, harming others, having improper conduct, being hypocritical, holding grudges, being excessively greedy, being afraid of what the Tathagata has said and distorting and fabricating, thereby abandoning the Dharma, being excessively arrogant, having an arrogant attitude and unwilling to ask questions, deceiving the Dharma without regret, being uncompassionate and having many enemies, upon entering the sangha, immediately upon seeing others, revealing their faults in order to prevent others' faith, being distrustful of secret places and harboring resentment, whether monks have been seen before or not, thinking, 'Let no one among these people like me,' speaking unfavorable praise in order to harm, instigating others in order to speak unfavorable praise, serving me with the intention of gain, thinking, 'It would be bad if the complete discipline were to decline because of this,' thus examining each separately and maintaining pure discipline. Great King, such people will either fall away severely from the teachings or return to the state of householders, so the Buddha said. In the "Heart of the Sun Sutra," it is also said: Then, those who are deceived by Mara, the basis of discipline, due to past lives, aspirations, and all the Buddhas

With offerings such as flower garlands and urged by all virtuous roots, I came before the Blessed One like scattering grass. With a tearful face and palms joined, I pleaded thus: "Venerable Blessed One, like a child, like a drunkard, like one with a disturbed mind, I have committed faults. Venerable Blessed One, I have committed faults. Thus I remember, having completed countless eons, I practiced the conduct of the six perfections with great diligence for the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. I have purified virtuous roots completely and done much. Blessed One, I have attended and honored the past Buddhas who resided for hundreds of thousands of millions of eons with various means, and I have also heard the Dharma. I have also made aspirations. In the teachings of the Tathagata Kashyapa, I encouraged some monks with the words of the Shravakas. Then, without thinking, I said, 'Alas, a person with the appearance of a Shramana, speaking the words of the Shravakas in front of those who have truly entered the Mahayana, this is the speech of a demon,' and uttered sinful words. If I had not spoken those sinful words at that time, then I would have received the prediction of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment at that time. The remainder of Sukara, after my death, I was reborn in the realm of demons, and for fifty-seven billion hundred years, I did not generate even a single thought of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment there. What need is there to mention the realm of Brahma?" Thus, before the Tathagata and his retinue, I twice requested forgiveness. As long as I wander in the cycle of past limits, I would rather dwell in hell until the end of future limits than turn my mind away from unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Thus he spoke. The Ratnakuta Sutra also says: "Kashyapa Bodhisattva, if endowed with four qualities, will forget the mind of enlightenment. What are the four? They are:

That is, deceiving the Khenpo and, the Acharya and, the Lama and, the alms-giving place, causing others to regret without regret, generating regret, speaking unpraiseworthy and unpleasant words to sentient beings who have truly entered the Mahayana, uttering words that should not be spoken, being close to falsehood and deceit, and not with superior intention. The Bodhisattva Good Protector said that if a Bodhisattva possesses these four dharmas, he will forget the mind of Bodhicitta. Also, in the 'Inexhaustible Discourse Sutra,' at that time, in that assembly, a girl named Jewel Girl gathered and sat, and said to the joyful Bodhisattva: One should generate great faith in the appearance of the Buddha, the appearance of the Buddha is very difficult to obtain, the appearance of the Buddha is due to lack of diligence, having a false mind, deceit, falsehood, being destroyed by pride, having a harmful mind, anger, much resentment, stinginess, not knowing gratitude, the three thoughts not being completely pure, being attached to the three realms, having three stains, not respecting the Three Jewels, fearing the three doors of liberation, agitation, arrogance, talkativeness, scattered speech, shamelessness, immodesty, embellishing body, speech, and mind, disrespect, dwelling in a house, pretending, talkativeness, deceiving oneself and others, especially clinging to gain, friends, and respect, not guarding the sense doors, emphasizing the conduct of the Hearers, delighting in the Pratyekabuddha vehicle, stinginess, breaking vows, having much harmful intent, laziness, forgetfulness, perverse wisdom, unskilled in means, being separated from love and compassion, following the afflictions of stinginess, clinging to self, sentient beings, life, and person, contradicting cause, action, karma, and fruition, being unreasonable and not diligent, having little learning, being separated from understanding, arrogance, acting in carelessness.
