All will become Pratyekabuddhas, and whoever reviles, scolds, or slanders all those Pratyekabuddhas with untrue words, whether they are believers or non-believers, whoever adopts the unfinished work of the teacher and introduces Dharma based on their own imagination, this is called slandering the Tathagata. Among slandering the Pratyekabuddhas and slandering the Tathagata, slandering the Tathagata is the more serious. Furthermore, if someone says, "I abandon the precepts, I abandon the Buddha, I abandon the Dharma, I abandon the Sangha," if they abandon the teachings of the teacher and praise the words of their own imagination, then they have abandoned. Ananda, this is called stealing the Dharma. Whoever adds a single word based on their own imagination and thinks that the teacher's work has been completely finished, this untrue act is called a Dharma thief, a thief of the Dharma assembly, and one who destroys the Dharma. Ananda, it is impossible and there is no opportunity for those who possess these attachments to cultivate great joy towards the Buddha and to cultivate great joy towards the Dharma and the Sangha; this is impossible. Afterwards, they will say, "This is caste, this is not caste, this is related, this is not related." They will abandon the mere hearing of the Sutras; it should be understood in this way. Those who possess the roots of non-virtue will be regarded by the wise as especially arrogant. After their body is destroyed and they die, they will be born in hell. If they are reborn among humans, they will become foolish, stuttering, without a tongue, with two tongues, with a festering tongue, with a tongue that speaks irrelevant words, and with a mute tongue. Thus spoke the Blessed One. Explanation of the intention of praising oneself and disparaging others. It is also said in the Inexpressible Sutra: Then, the retinue of Bodhisattvas, filled with joy, gathered there and sat down. They said to the Bodhisattva Inexpressible One: Son of good family, by learning what does a Bodhisattva deceive the Tathagata?

It is said: If one teaches, saying, "I am endowed with discipline, others are of corrupted discipline," that is deceiving the Tathagata. If one teaches, saying, "I am endowed with generosity, others are miserly; I am endowed with patience, others are malicious; I am endowed with diligence, others are lazy; I am meditative, others are of distracted mind; I am endowed with wisdom, others are of corrupted wisdom," that is deceiving the Tathagata. I am of few desires, content, utterly solitary, easy to satisfy, easy to nourish, a hermit who wanders for alms, among the sweepings, abiding in purification, delighting in unmixed solitude, diligent, exceedingly diligent, having heard much, endowed with words worthy of acceptance, speaking frankly, of gentle speech, endowed with mindfulness, endowed with intelligence, perfectly endowed with ritual and conduct, easy to instruct, harmonious, convincing, abiding in comfort, diligent in right view, abiding in loving-kindness, having obtained compassion, joy, and equanimity, speaking truthfully, words that are true, words that are correct, acting as spoken. Having recognized the deeds of Mara, I shall also abandon them. I shall train in the perfections. I am patient with the profound. I abide in the consideration of the words and answers of the Tathagata. I am skilled in teaching, requesting, rejoicing, and dedicating. I am perfectly endowed with generosity, taming, right discipline, and convincingness. I am skilled in holding, reading, and discriminating. Through vigilance, one manifestly accomplishes the cause of all virtuous conduct. Others do not accomplish those things; if one thus holds oneself and reviles others, that is deceiving the Tathagata. Son of good family, furthermore, if one thinks, "I shall fully understand these dharmas, I shall abandon these dharmas, I shall eliminate these dharmas, I shall cultivate these dharmas," that is deceiving the Tathagata. Why is that? Even if the Tathagatas appear,

Even if the Tathagatas do not appear, the realm of Dharma is inherently abiding. This realm of Dharma is not to be fully known, not to be abandoned, not to be directly realized, not to be meditated upon. If one thinks, "I am a speaker of truth," then one deceives the Tathagata. Why is that? Because in truth, there is no duality of "I" and "mine." If one thinks, "I have attained," or "I have directly realized," then one deceives the Tathagata. Why is that? Because what is to be completely purified by oneself is without attainment, without direct realization. If one thinks, "This is to be done, this is to be abandoned," then one deceives the Tathagata. Why is that? Because the Tathagata is without doing and not doing. If one thinks, "I abide in mindfulness," then one deceives the Tathagata. Why is that? Because the Tathagata awakens to complete enlightenment without mindfulness and without attention to all phenomena. If one thinks, "I have entered into perfect abandonment," then one deceives the Tathagata. Why is that? Because the Tathagata awakens to complete enlightenment in the self-nature abandonment of all phenomena. If one thinks, "I strive for the purity of higher knowledge, wisdom, and miraculous powers," then one deceives the Tathagata. Why is that? Because the Tathagata awakens to complete enlightenment in the unmixed, true limit. If one thinks, "I am endowed with faculties, powers, limbs of enlightenment, and the path," then one deceives the Tathagata. Why is that? Because the enlightenment of the Tathagatas is unconditioned. The aggregates are entirely other, and the one path is entirely other. To teach in this way is to deceive the Tathagata, it is said. In the Sutra of the Seal of the Wisdom of the Tathagatas, it is also said: Those who have become possessors will revile those who are not possessors. Those who have become delighted will revile those who are not delighted. Those who have become observers will revile those who are not observers. Those who have become pleasing to behold will
