ra. Thus, gathering with pleasant words, compassion dwells near them. Whatever benefits children, they cherish. If harm befalls them, children rejoice. Due to such faults, abandon all children and dwell alone in solitude like a wild deer. The wise, knowing such faults, relying on inferior wisdom, my high status diminishes. How can enlightenment be attained? Thus it is said. Showing the intention on the fault of not asking. Also, in the Sutra of Mindfulness, the Nearness of the Sacred Dharma, it is said: Furthermore, eleven things are obstacles to a monk's meditation and recitation, and cause extreme hardship. What are these? They are, for example, not asking out of pride. Here, one becomes inferior in intelligence and does not develop wisdom. How is it that I hold all the meanings and words of all scriptures, and I speak through the gates of meaning and words? Thus, outwardly, one becomes self-aggrandizing. I hold all the collections of wisdom without exception. I have certainly taught hundreds of thousands of meanings that exist together, even to the inferior. There is no one equal to me. Thus, one proclaims and declares to others, firmly establishing it in the mind. This is solely exhausted by the arrogance of knowledge, making all sentient beings aware of one's own qualities, making it understandable to all people. Just as this one has surpassed all knowledge, there is no one comparable or equal to them. Thus, worldly people will speak. They will also become very little learned, and the inside will become empty, and they will become collectible, and they will become sparse, and they will be like empty vessels, and they will be like autumn clouds, and they will be made outside of meditation and recitation, and they will be worshiped by all inferior people. It is when the ascetic engages in meditation and recitation, and discipline, and generosity, and diligence, and when hearing becomes vast through focus and nature, and the adornment of taming and extreme gentleness.

Adorned with, holding the Buddha's teachings very dear, without weariness, instilled with great wisdom, those who are ill, at that time, inner emptiness gradually accumulates, they think: if those monks appear as I am, they will overcome me. Those donors offer to me, but they will not receive anything from me either. I will be suppressed by the donors. Those who are bound by arrogance and selfishness will not understand the meaning of things with their own wisdom. Because of the fear of being suppressed, they will not ask others either. If some people do not understand themselves, or hear something that they understand or do not understand, because of inner emptiness, fearing being suppressed, they do not understand themselves, nor do they dare to ask others because of the fear of being suppressed. Those who speak falsely in this way will violate the five precepts. For example, they will lie, even though they have not understood through learning, they still speak, this is the first violation of the precepts. What is another violation of the precepts? For example, those offerings, donors think he is knowledgeable and make offerings, but he improperly accepts other teachings, blocking the giving of other wisdom, this is another violation of the precepts. What is another violation of the precepts? For example, when a monk becomes a renunciate, he completely relies on discipline, abides in discipline, takes discipline as the goal, thinking: I will completely abandon the household life, thereby completely upholding the precepts. If a person has not heard and does not show hearing to others, then his discipline is broken. This is another violation of the precepts. And another violation of the precepts is like this:

When showing asking and asking again, one will be frightened by overwhelming fear, thereby slandering the Dharma. One will say that this is not Dharma, but is extremely difficult and extremely sinful, thereby denying the Dharma. What other transgression of the basis of discipline is there? For example, when one does not understand the sacred Dharma, those who possess pure conduct will say: You have not heard such profound and true teachings of the Buddha. One will say: Only I know, but you do not. That will reproach the Sangha. One will be frightened by overwhelming fear, thereby slandering the world. One will preach the Dharma in such a way that the merits of the sacred Dharma will decline. Because of not asking, one considers oneself very venerable, and after the body dies, one will fall into evil destinies and be born in sentient hells. There is another great fault in not asking, such as, if one enters the forest because of pride. Because of being overwhelmed, one does not ask the teacher who shows the good path, and because of the fault of pride, what kind of path will it become? How should one keep the aim in mind? In what way should one make the path slightly smaller, and keep it in mind again? One will not ask that way. Not finding it that way, his mind will be frustrated. Moreover, without rising from his meditative posture, he will now think: Those elders do not have the path and meditation, they do not have samadhi. He will, due to the fault of pride and overwhelming fear, slander the fruits of meditation and the fruits of samadhi. He will think: I will feel frustrated. That wrong view holder, after the body dies, will fall into evil destinies and be born in sentient hells. Then, at that time, the Bhagavan Light Protector spoke in verse: O Bhikshu, self-knowledge and pride diminish, likewise ask the Lama, strive for diligence, and you will attain transcendence of hell. As much as you have heard, so much only should you explain. Self-knowledge does not diminish from the path, the Bhikshu should know that. Whoever's arrogance and contempt have diminished.
