Wealth, just like the monk Ananda. Ananda, in this way, monks who have heard much will not be reborn in the hell realms of sentient beings, nor in the animal realm, nor in the world of Yama. Wherever they are born, they will become greatly wise. How does one become greatly wise? It is because of great wisdom that one will not manifest the five inexpiable sins. Ananda, a monk who has heard much will be able to dispel the sorrow and pain of others, and will be able to dispel the regret of others. In this life's visible dharma and the perfections of future lives, there is nothing that is not included in much learning. Ananda, therefore, those who wish to hold my banner of dharma should strive for much learning. A monk who seeks much learning will accomplish three things. What are the three? He will fully uphold the sacred dharma, dispel the regret that others have had and will have, and cause them to be liberated from sorrow without being devoured by demons. This is the common cause of much learning. A monk who seeks much learning will fully hold four dharmas. What are the four? He will abide in much learning and speak of various things, which will not be abandoned even by the gods, he will not kill, and he will be skilled in karma and its ripening. Monks, one who seeks much learning will fully hold these four dharmas. A monk who seeks much learning will hold five qualities. What are the five? At the time of death, his mind will be immersed in the dharma, and immediately after dying from here, he will be reborn in the happy realm of the heavens, where the gods will also surround him, delighting the gods with dharma-related speech, causing them to receive it correctly, and he will be overwhelmed by gods and humans, and then immediately after dying from there, he will be reborn again among humans, and will rule the kingdom. Why is that? Because the Tathagata has declared this giving to be supreme, namely, the giving of the Dharma.

is giving. By such a Dharma giving, the king will become wealthy and have many attendants. He will become prudent and wise. He will become one who engages in the affairs of the kingdom. Possessing these five qualities, he will become one whose characteristics cannot be overcome by gods and humans. Ananda, therefore, a wise monk should diligently strive for extensive learning. These five qualities have been spoken by the Thus-Gone One, having fully known them. Therefore, a wise monk should abandon these five places of decline and diligently strive for the place of perfection. What is the place of perfection? It is extensive learning, for extensive learning brings wisdom closer. He will abide in solitude. Possessing wisdom, he will not be defeated by all afflictions; this is called possessing wisdom. These are the powers of extensive learning: Sorrow will not arise in him. He will not be arrogant. He will not be angry. He will not hold grudges. He will not be frivolous. He will not be conceited. He will not be deceitful. He will not be confused. He will not be cruel to those without support. He will not do things done out of pride. He will not be afraid. He will not be harmful. When dwelling among attendants, he will not be afraid. When sitting among attendants, these are those who dwell on self-grasping, those who are accompanied by pride, he will not be discouraged thinking that he cannot be fully satisfied. He will not become harmful due to slander. He will not be elated by praise. He will possess abiding. He will not be robbed. His tongue will be abandoned. His tongue will become pure. He will fully master gentle and pleasant speech. His voice will be pleasing. The sound of his speech will be pleasant. He will enter into a great assembly of attendants. In the assembly, he will become a speaker. The gods will always follow him. He will become a patron of wisdom. He will become a patron of discipline. He will become a patron of generosity. He will become a patron of higher realms. He will become a patron of nirvana. Whatever qualities are proclaimed, all of that is the giving of Dharma.

It thoroughly clarifies the retinue of the benefactor and establishes them in those qualities. Ananda, therefore, a benefactor who is learned will become an excellent benefactor, a happy benefactor, a benefactor who practices well, and even a benefactor who is liberated from suffering. That wisdom makes even a small amount of generosity abundant. It does not become a mind of decline, it does not become a mind of discouragement, it does not become a mind of suffering. Others cannot cause him to have regrets. The mind of suffering will be completely burned. He will become a proclaimer of instructions, he will become one who causes to take them correctly, he will become one who completely upholds the sacred Dharma. For the sake of those noble beings who possess such qualities, the Tathagata will turn the wheel of Dharma. Ananda, therefore, seeing such praises of the qualities of learning, one should strive for learning. When this was said, the venerable Ananda said to the Blessed One, "Blessed One, if the Tathagata has spoken these praises of learning, Blessed One, how much merit will one who establishes others in learning accumulate?" When this was said, the Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda, "Ananda, the meaning of what some wise men say will be understood by analogy, therefore I will tell you an analogy: Ananda, in the three thousand great thousand world realms, however many kinds of trees, kinds of grass, or stumps of one finger joint or two finger joints that grow, all of them are endowed with leaves, flowers, and fruits, and among them, whatever grass grows one finger joint, its fruit will accomplish as many as the sands of the Ganges River, and among them, whatever grows two finger joints from the ground, its fruit will accomplish as many as the sands of two Ganges Rivers, and in this way, however many finger joints grow, there will be that many. Similarly, however many stump finger joints there are, it is the Ganges River of
