Having the distinction of excellent laughter, For the sake of its inexhaustible and complete perfection, The diligence of the monastery is also a special cause. Even if one dwells in the work of supreme wisdom, There is no entry into the work of signs. With great compassion, not abandoning the compounded, Even with great diligence, one does not fall into the absence of the compounded. Hearing the Dharma that has never been heard before is not harmful, In any case, one does not retreat and also holds the Dharma that has been heard. All non-humans are happy to benefit him, All aspects of Samadhi will be attained. All times of day and night are said to have fruit, There is no degradation by the assembly of qualities. By all the meanings that are superior to the Dharma of humans, It increases in all aspects like the Utpala (藏文,梵文天城体,utpala,汉语:Utpala) flower. Fame and happiness will also be attained, Generosity, abandonment of doubt, and the supreme state of mind will also be attained. All the qualities of this life that appear, The way of diligence arises, there is no greater quality. The Buddha who possesses great qualities and is complete, Even the one worthy of worship in the three realms is accomplished from that. If the qualities of great diligence are like that, Why not be diligent in great diligence? This is the chapter on the perfection of diligence. Then, for the sake of generating wisdom, One should strive in the way of meditation. All aspects that benefit the world, Are happily accomplished by the light of wisdom. If the mind is purified by the way of meditation, Like the clouds cleared in the autumn season, Like the moon shining in the sky, Wisdom will become especially clear. Having pure morality, Having relied on virtuous and beneficial friends, Few activities and peacefulness, Holding the way of blessing with mindfulness, Or a pure place of asceticism under a tree, Or a beautiful meadow, Or the unadorned, joyful, The fragrant flowers of the forest, Suitable as a condition for meditation, Contented places for beings, Or where the sound of beings does not arise, Or places that dwell in profundity, Or a good ground for a monastery, Or empty places and houses, Or secluded medicinal mountain retreats, Or a place where the roar of a lion is heard, Or secluded from busyness and afflictions, In any suitable place, Sit comfortably in the lotus position, Straighten the upright body, Place the upright guard on the mind, One should place it closely and correctly, Understanding wrongly with compassion.

Those, having vowed in a manner of no leisure, at the time of knowing the Prajñāpāramitā, this is the time of Nirvāṇa, not the time when sentient beings have not entered Nirvāṇa, do not rejoice in Nirvāṇa. Thus, thinking of benefiting the world, generate faith in becoming a Buddha, with uninterrupted yoga, strive to practice meditation. If you repeatedly become lazy, like rubbing wood to make fire, the fire goes out before it is produced, the method of yoga is also like that, do not abandon it without obtaining excellence. In a single object of focus, in a firm manner, make the mind's thought firm. If you go through many objects of focus, then this will become a disturbance of afflictions. By the strength of striving to practice Vipassanā, if you become discouraged, then you should praise and encourage yourself. Whenever the mind becomes agitated, then you should subdue it with the method of Śamatha. If the power of Samādhi is unwavering, and it has become upright, then you should let it go. For the sake of obtaining the Sugata Samādhi, you should not become attached to it. Tasting the joy of meditation, do not take the loss of no freedom. For the sake of obtaining only your own happiness, you should not accomplish this vast undertaking. If you think of body and life, and your mind is shaken by being overcome by cowardice, even if your own head is burned, you should not become lazy in diligence because of it. Knowing the nature of the characteristics, for the sake of keeping the mind in equanimity, if the mind becomes distracted from the object of focus, then you should gather it back with mindfulness. If your own mind, from all the obscurations, becomes free like an elephant king, then you should subdue it from the wrong path, just as you would subdue it with an iron hook. Thus, by removing the disease of obscurations, the mind becomes refreshed, like a poor person escaping from hardship and poverty, and obtaining the liberation of enjoying happiness. With a mind endowed with happiness, you should remove the faults of desire. Separated from them, although from one object of focus, you successively experience all kinds of happiness, yet like lightning, it is impermanent and changing, like a collection of foam, it is without self-nature, like a dream, it is meaningless, you should abandon such deceptive objects. Like fathers loving their sons, and sons likewise loving their fathers, friends loving friends, and beings loving each other. Accumulating with a collection of merits, stabilizing with a firm essence, like warships colliding on the battlefield, destroy the boundaries of friendship and love.

However, the suffering of striving in this life, and the cause of generating evil destinies in other lives, is the nature of desire. Therefore, one should not indulge in desires, which are the basis of all conceptual thoughts, and also for oneself and others, the cause of blinding the eye of wisdom, and also generate various kinds of unhappiness. One should strive for the sake of one's own desires. Those desires that are completely abandoned in all aspects, those desires for the benefit of others, should not be remembered with diligence. When those desires are obtained, and enjoyed as if for a single day, and not satisfied by accumulating them in abundance, what greater disease is there than that? When sought, it is a tasteless affliction, when guarded, it generates fear, and when lost, it generates great sorrow, who would desire that? If one is intoxicated by its taste, one would not even care for one's own benefit, like a mind possessed by intoxicating madness, who would generate desire? Thus, in all aspects, having known that desire is fraught with faults, the mind will turn away from it, and develop faith in the path of liberation. The joy and happiness born of solitude, arise from being born from obtaining ease. Because one is endowed with those limbs, one obtains the first dhyana. There, conceptual thought and subtle discernment are seen as having desire and faults, and by seeking their pacification, one obtains joy and happiness born of samadhi. When the inner is completely subdued, and the mind is focused on one point, it is said to be the dhyana of the second dhyana, spoken by the supreme, unequaled sage. Having known that it is a disturbance of the mind, one who is free from attachment to joy, endowed with mindfulness and equanimity, will obtain the third dhyana. Having completely abandoned the thought of happiness, having no suffering or happiness, purified by equanimity and mindfulness, one will obtain the fourth dhyana. Thereafter, one obtains the five superknowledges, and when the Dharma King reigns over the kingdom, glory, fame, shame, and retention will follow him. Having accomplished manifest realization for the sake of others, in the qualities of the self-conqueror and Hearer, they have greatly surpassed, and are exceedingly excellent and powerful. Giving subdues stinginess, the undisciplined are established in discipline, anger is endured and determined, laziness is overcome by great diligence, and the disturbed mind
