The mind is the form of virtue, The characteristic of contentment, The form of generating mindfulness, The characteristic of increasing generosity, Furthermore, towards all the Buddha's teachings, The form of insatiability, The characteristic of not losing what has not been heard, The form of listening to direct perception, Likewise, suffering and emptiness, Impurity, selflessness, peace, etc., The form of guarding one's own mind, The form of increasing diligence. This also, the vast noble ones, Inexhaustible wisdom, should be known in brief. Only through hearing, the Dharma, Is called by another name, the collection of Dharma. When it is fully ripened, That itself is the collection of wisdom, Through the union of the collection of Dharma, What is said to be the conducive cause is, Few meanings, few activities, Manifest joy in speaking little, Again and again, the meaning of hearing, Focusing the mind and being devoted to the Dharma, Mind and joy and possessions, Being delighted in having little, Manifestly inclined towards solitude, Furthermore, also delighting in being alone, Unfailing mindfulness and constantly, Delighting in giving and morality, Cutting off codes of law, etc., Any musical treatises, And those of worldly distractions, All treatises are completely abandoned. These are the perfections of diligence. In the "Requested by the Fierce One" Sutra: If one sees the house, etc., as a collection of faults, Then the one with hearing should, From then on, dwell in the forest. The ignorant one who dwells in the house, because of sons, wealth, and wives, etc., With loving actions, the mind becomes distracted, how can one attain peace? Likewise, the Buddha's agelessness and immortality, peaceful and incomparable, Will one also attain the state of benefiting oneself and others, the perfection of bliss? Wealth and wife and self, these three are considered precious, Without attachment and innate, abiding in the state of realization. For these, who, when, and how will they arise? Because it is not real, the wisdom that knows it is meaningless is powerful. Even with hearing, if one clings to gain, etc., The mind will not be tamed, Then in the world with gods, That is the supreme deception. Just as being carried into the great ocean, Unknowing beings, Die of thirst, Likewise, having obtained leisure, but...

Even now, if the mind is not tamed, it will fall into lower realms. The wise do not drive away children with strife, for the wise treat them with compassion and respect, and then let them go. Likewise, for those who suffer, first show them equal happiness, and then how can you rejoice with the enemy who causes suffering? Therefore, in order to abandon afflictions, even if they are similar to worldly people, they themselves are the cause of the increase of merit for sentient beings. Or, if one desires a retinue out of attachment to a group of sentient beings with unequal fortune, and becomes disillusioned, and submits for the sake of fame and gain, then what is the difference between this forest and a home? One should dwell in those forests where the places for alms-seeking are neither too far nor too near. In that place, there are also waters that are free from the faults of impurities arising from living beings, and there are trees bent with the weight of fruits, and there are caves that are free from venomous snakes. There, one recites scriptures day and night, and again examines the mantras with a collection of reasonings. Then, holding the signs arising from merit, and being free from the poison of sinking and agitation, one generates joy in one's own mind. If a king or a prince, a Brahmin or a minister, etc., comes to the hermitage of a monk, then with respect, one should say to him, "Are you well?" Regarding the seats that have been arranged, knowing for oneself, one should say, "Please sit." If the king stands, one should also stand from one's seat, and if he sits, one should sit down, and then speak pleasing words: "In your country, O fortunate one, are the learned, disciplined monks, Brahmins, etc., always dwelling in happiness?" If the king is firm, subdued, and all his senses are pacified, then one should speak about matters related to karma and its corresponding ripening results. If the king has faith, one should speak words that accord with faith, or praise the Buddha, whose qualities are profound and vast. The Bodhisattva went to the forest.
